• Sansom, Margaret Alday

    Margaret Alday Sansom, 73, of Juniper, died Feb. 25, 2009 in Panama City.

    She was born Aug. 30, 1935 in Donaldsonville, Ga., and was a member of Harvest Chapel in Tallahassee. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and had lived in Gadsden County for over 60 years.

    Services were held Feb. 28, with interment at Sycamore Cemetery.

  • McMillan, John B.

    John B. McMillan, 58, of Chattahoochee, died Feb. 18, 2009 in Tallahassee.  Services were held Feb. 28 at Deliverance Temple Ministries First Born Church in Hardaway, with burial following in the Rosedale Cemetery. 

  • Robinson Jr., Willie Lee

    Willie Lee Robinson Jr., 71 of Quincy, died Feb. 24, 2009 at Big Bend Hospice House in Tallahassee. 

    Celebration services were held March 1 at St. Hebron AME Church in Quincy, with burial following in the church cemetery. 

  • Kennedy, John J.

    John J. Kennedy, 77, died Feb. 24, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Graveside services were held Feb. 28 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy.

    Born in Bainbridge, Ga. on May 11, 1931, Kennedy spent most of his life in Tampa before retiring to Havana. He served in the U.S. Navy and was employed, after his term of service ended, with Continental Can Company until his retirement.

    Survivors include his sons, Johnny L. Kennedy (Nita) of Quincy and James E. Kennedy (Renee) of Havana; daughter, Debra K. Browning (Barry) of Tallahassee; 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

  • Simpson, Jean Fair

    Jean Fair Hubbard Simpson, 91, of Columbus, Ga., died Feb. 22, 2009 at The Green House at Calvary in Columbus.

    A graveside funeral service was held Feb. 25 at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery near Lumpkin, Ga.

    Simpson was born Sept. 17, 1917 in Mount Pleasant to Arch N. and Rosa Beggs Hubbard. She moved to Columbus from Tallahassee, where she had worked for the Secretary of State. She had attended business school in Thomasville, Ga. She was a longtime resident of Conrad Drive and was a member of Wynnton United Methodist Church.

  • Akins, D'Anderia

    D’Anderia Akins, newborn, of Quincy, died Feb. 24, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Funeral services will be held March 5 at 11 a.m. at Sunnyvale Cemetery.

    Survivors, all of Quincy, include the mother, Kyshada Walker; father, Demarcus Akins; maternal grandmother, Deborah Young (Franklin); maternal great-grandmother, Joetter Young; paternal grandmother, Irene Griffin; and an aunt and uncle.

  • Suber Jr., Winton Smith

    Winton “Jimp” Smith Suber Jr., died March 2 in Tallahassee.

    The owner and operator of Suber Heating and Air Conditioning Service, he was a native of Gadsden County and a lifetime resident.

    Services were held March 4 at Washington Street Church of Christ in Quincy, with interment in Hillcrest Cemetery.

    Survivors include his wife, Johnnie Mae Glisson Suber of Quincy; son, Allen Suber (Teresa) of Quincy; daughters, Barbara Gail Smith (Joe) of Sawdust and Billy Jean Barber (Dennis) of Quincy; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

  • Thrower, Margaret

    Margaret Munroe Thrower, 93, of Atlanta, died Feb. 17 from complications following a fall on Jan. 16. Her husband, Randolph W. Thrower, was at her side.

  • Byrd Jr., Rudolph

    Rudolph Byrd Jr., 37, of Qincy, died Feb. 13 in Thomasville, Ga.

    Services were held Feb. 21 at Mt. Calvary PB Church, with burial in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

    Survivors include his daughter, Sequioa Byrd of Quincy; son, Terell Byrd of Fowlstown, Ga.; parents Rudolph and Flossie Byrd Sr. of Quincy; brothers, Clifton Byrd (Lakerria) and Antwan Byrd, both of Quincy; and a sister, Danielle Cannon, of Quincy.


  • Bowden, Dorothy S.

    Dorothy S. Bowden, 80, of Quincy, died Feb. 15, 2009 in Tallahassee. 

    Services were held Feb. 21 at New Bethel AME Church in Quincy with burial in the St. John AME Church Cemetery.
