  • Livingston, Tommie

    Tommie Livingston, 96, of Miami, died April 5, 2009 in Miami.

    Services were held April 11 at Concord AME Church in Tallahassee, with burial in Concord Cemetery.

  • Holmes, Sylvester

    Sylvester Holmes, 80, of Quincy, died April 4, 2009 at Miracle Hill in Tallahassee.

    Services were held April 11 at Deliverance Temple Church in the Hardaway Community, with burial in Sunnyvale Cemetery in Quincy.

    Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Doyle Holmes of Quincy; daughter, Anglie Holmes Galloway of Quincy; sons, Alvin Holmes of Quincy and Rex Holmes of Tallahassee; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.

     

  • Straughn Sr., Clifton

    Clifton Theodore Straughn Sr., 96, loving husband, father, grandfather, Pawpaw and friend died march 30, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family.

    He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Carmi Curry Straughn; son, Ted Straughn (Muriel) of Quincy; daughter, Peggy Straughn Kinsaul (Butch) of Albany, Ga.; grandchildren, Cliff Straughn III of Chattahoochee, and Teri Wood and Tripp Thompson, both of of Cumming, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Straughn.

  • Whittle, James

    James Clifford Whittle, 98, died March 29, 2009 at his home on Whittle Lane.

    Born Nov. 30, 1910 at Whittle Lane, he had lived at his home his entire life. He was a former county commissioner and school board member in Liberty County, and retired from the state road department.

    Funeral services were held March 31 at Charles McClellan Funeral Home with interment in the J. C. Whittle Cemetery at Hawkins Lane in Liberty County.

  • Dudley, Rufus

    Rufus Lee “RD” Dudley, 48, of Bristol, died March 26, 2009 in Cypress.

    Born March 26, 1961 in Jackson County, he was the son of Gracia Roulhac and John D. Dudley. He attended public school in Jackson County and was a grader for the Louisiana Pacific and Spanish Trail Lumber Companies in Cypress for more than 25 years.

    He was married to Karen D. Dudley on Oct. 2, 1987 in Bristol, and they had two children.

    Funeral services were held April 4 at St. Mary MB Church in Blountstown, with burial in the Bristol Cemetery.

  • Cherri, Nancy

    Nancy Sanders Cherri, 58,m of Alligator Point, died March 19, 2009.

    Born in Quincy, she was a graduate of Quincy High School.

    Services were held march 23 at First Baptist Church in Quincy, with interment in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

    Survivors include her husband, Tony Cherri of Alligator Point; daughter, Celia Gay Benitez (Juan Carlos) of Suwanee, Ga.; stepdaughter, Laura Cherri of Columbus, Ohio; stepson, Daniel Cherri of Tallahassee; brothers, Vernon Sanders and Joe Sanders (Peggy), all of Tallahassee; and eight grandchildren.

  • Gaines, Doretha

    Doretha B. Gaines, 53, of Havana, died March 25, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Services will be held April 4 at 2 p.m. at China Hill MB Church, with burial at Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be held April 3 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home.

  • Odom, Mack

    Mack Madison Odom, 74, of Quincy, died March 26, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Funeral services will be held April 4 at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, with burial in St. Hebron Cemetery. Visitation is April 3 from 1 to 7 p.m.

  • Richardson, Joseph

    Joseph Richardson, 57, of Chattahoochee, died March 12, 2009 at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. 

    Richardson served his country by joining the U.S. Marine Corps.  He returned home after his service and worked until retirement as a human services aide at the Florida State Hospital.  He also attained certification as a nursing assistant.  He was a member of New Zion MB Church and actively attended St. James MB Church with his wife, Evangelist Betty “Peaches” Green Richardson of Chattahoochee. 

  • Sweet, Captollar

    Captollar Hannah Sweet, 93, of Tallahassee, died March 10, 2009 in Tallahassee. 

    Funeral services were held March 21 at Greater Bethel MB Church in Chattahoochee with burial following in the UBA Cemetery.  A wake was held March 20 at Bradwell Mortuary in Quincy. 

    She is survived by her children, L.J. Williams of Macclenny, and Lucille W. Bell and Johnnie Parham, both of Chattahoochee; and a devoted grandson, Ricky Bryant of Chattahoochee.
