    Jamel Lamar Morris, 34, of Indianapolis, Ind., died April 1, 2009 in Indianapolis.

    Burial was April 11 at Second Elizabeth Cemetery.

    Survivors include his wife, Brenda Morris of Indianapolis; sons, Cameron and Caleb Morris of Indianapolis; parents, Henry and Cynthia Morris Brown of Quincy; sisters, Chelsia Williams, Yolanda Morris, Tyesha Bradwell (Tony), Nykera Brown, Denise Brown and Crystal Brown, all of Quincy; brothers, Dexter Morris, John Morris Lesly) Donnell Brown, Dontay Brown, Dantavis Brown and Lanzio Brown, all of Quincy.

    Rosetta Taswell, 96, of Quincy, died April 1, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Services were held April 11 at St. John AME Church, with burial at St. Paul PB Church in Fowlstown, Ga.

    Survivors include her daughters, Jeanette Taswell Francis of Quincy and Blanche Mize of Humble, Texas; son, Artis Taswell of Pinole, Calif.; grandson, Kyl Francis of Quincy; granddaughter, Barbara Mills of Brooklyn, N.Y.; nieces, Lucile McKay of Quincy and Rosetta Wright of Philadelphia, Penn.; and a host of other relatives.

    Ja’Miyah Zykerria Conner, 8 months, of Quincy, died April 5, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    A graveside service was held April 11 in the Hanna Town Cemetery in Hanna, Ga.

    Born July 8, 2008 in Tallahassee, she was the daughter of Shalonda L. Marshall and Demarius A. Conner.

  • Kenon Sr., Lewis

    Lewis Kenon Sr., 62, of Quincy, died April 4, 2009 in Quincy.

    He was a member of New Abundant Outeach Christian Center. Services were held April 18 at St. Joseph MB Church in the Friendship Community with burial following in Mt. Calvary Church Cemetery in the Robertsville Community.

    Tommie Livingston, 96, of Miami, died April 5, 2009 in Miami.

    Services were held April 11 at Concord AME Church in Tallahassee, with burial in Concord Cemetery.

  • Holmes, Sylvester

    Sylvester Holmes, 80, of Quincy, died April 4, 2009 at Miracle Hill in Tallahassee.

    Services were held April 11 at Deliverance Temple Church in the Hardaway Community, with burial in Sunnyvale Cemetery in Quincy.

    Survivors include his wife, Mary Lee Doyle Holmes of Quincy; daughter, Anglie Holmes Galloway of Quincy; sons, Alvin Holmes of Quincy and Rex Holmes of Tallahassee; 15 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other family members and friends.


  • Straughn Sr., Clifton

    Clifton Theodore Straughn Sr., 96, loving husband, father, grandfather, Pawpaw and friend died march 30, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his family.

    He is survived by his wife of 75 years, Carmi Curry Straughn; son, Ted Straughn (Muriel) of Quincy; daughter, Peggy Straughn Kinsaul (Butch) of Albany, Ga.; grandchildren, Cliff Straughn III of Chattahoochee, and Teri Wood and Tripp Thompson, both of of Cumming, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.

    He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sherry Straughn.

  • Whittle, James

    James Clifford Whittle, 98, died March 29, 2009 at his home on Whittle Lane.

    Born Nov. 30, 1910 at Whittle Lane, he had lived at his home his entire life. He was a former county commissioner and school board member in Liberty County, and retired from the state road department.

    Funeral services were held March 31 at Charles McClellan Funeral Home with interment in the J. C. Whittle Cemetery at Hawkins Lane in Liberty County.

  • Dudley, Rufus

    Rufus Lee “RD” Dudley, 48, of Bristol, died March 26, 2009 in Cypress.

    Born March 26, 1961 in Jackson County, he was the son of Gracia Roulhac and John D. Dudley. He attended public school in Jackson County and was a grader for the Louisiana Pacific and Spanish Trail Lumber Companies in Cypress for more than 25 years.

    He was married to Karen D. Dudley on Oct. 2, 1987 in Bristol, and they had two children.

    Funeral services were held April 4 at St. Mary MB Church in Blountstown, with burial in the Bristol Cemetery.

  • Cherri, Nancy

    Nancy Sanders Cherri, 58,m of Alligator Point, died March 19, 2009.

    Born in Quincy, she was a graduate of Quincy High School.

    Services were held march 23 at First Baptist Church in Quincy, with interment in the Hillcrest Cemetery.

    Survivors include her husband, Tony Cherri of Alligator Point; daughter, Celia Gay Benitez (Juan Carlos) of Suwanee, Ga.; stepdaughter, Laura Cherri of Columbus, Ohio; stepson, Daniel Cherri of Tallahassee; brothers, Vernon Sanders and Joe Sanders (Peggy), all of Tallahassee; and eight grandchildren.
