    Services for Margaret Huffman Burell, 88, of Dublin, Ga., were held April 24 at First Baptist Church, with burial in the Twin City Cemetery, Twin City, Ga.

  • Coleman-Vickers, Mary Helen

    Mary Helen Coleman-Vickers, 65, of Quincy, died April 22, 2009 in Tallahassee.   

    Services were held May 3 at Beulah Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Gretna, with burial following in St. Paul Church Cemetery.   

  • Jackson, Norma

    Norma Jeanette Jackson, 77, died April 12, 2009 in Margaret Dozier Hospice House at Big Bend Hospice.

    The graveside service was held April 16 at Cool Springs Cemetery in Faceville, Ga.

    Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.

    A native of Geneva County, Ala., Jackson moved to the area from Holmes County in 1959. She and her late husband, B.J. Jackson, owned and operated Jackson Furniture Company in Havana, Quincy and Cairo, Ga., for many years before retiring.

  • Cummings, Margaret

    Margaret Cummings, 69, of Quincy, died April 11, 2009 in Quincy.

    Services were held April 18 at Mt. Hosea MB Church with burial in Sunnyvale Cemetery.

    Survivors include her husband, Cleveland Cummings Sr. of Quincy; sons, Craig Cummings (Mary Ella) and Cleveland Cummings, both of Quincy; daughter, Carmelisa Cummings of Quincy; sister, Minnie Feggins of Abbeville, Ala.; and brothers, C.J. McCallister and James Earl McCallister, both of Abbeville.

  • Suber, Iris

    Iris Isabel Suber of Pensacola died April 13, 2009.

    A native of Gadsden County, she taught in the Escambia County School District for 30 years. She was an active member of Pensacola Trinity Presbyterian Church, Escambia Retired Educators Association and the Pensacola Chapter of the DAR.

    Suber was preceded in death by her parents, Byron and Isabelle Humphrey Suber, lifetime residents of Gadsden County.

  • BenYedder, Elly

    Elly “Maria” BenYedder, born May 12, 1956, died April 9, 2009. No funeral service is planned.

    She is survived by her husband of 11 years, David Kenon.

    A native of Germany, she had lived in Quincy for the past 10 years. She was a member of Fellowship Independent Baptist Church.

    Other survivors include her sons, Michael Schmidt of Germany and Samir BenYedder of Quincy; mother, Anna Maria Schmidt of Germany; as well as her sisters and brother and grandchildren.

  • Bowen, Arthur

    Arthur Lee Bowen, 66 of Gretna, died April 8, 2009 in Tulsa, Okla. He was a member of Pine Bloom MB Church in Greensboro. The service was held April 14 at Mt. Moriah MB Church in Quincy. He was interred with military honors in the St. Paul Cemetery in Gretna.

    Zackary Marshall Davis Lingo, 10, died April 15, 2009 near Chattahoochee in an automobile accident.

    A memorial service was held April 20 at Freedom Church First Assembly of God in Tallahassee.

  • Jackson, James

    James “Jack” Jackson, 86, of Chattahoochee, died March 9, 2009 at home.

    Born July 10, 1922 in Chattahoochee, he was the son of the late Maggie McMillan and Robert Jackson. He attended public school in Gadsden County and married Lillie Mae Bowden, and together they had children and grandchildren. He was a resident of Pompano Beach before moving to Roselle, N.J., where he retired from the Union County Sanitation Department. Later in life, he married Bernice Johnson and was a father and grandfather to her children.

  • Berkins, T.D.

    T.D. Berkins, 96, of Quincy, died April 17, 2009 at Riverchase Care Center in Quincy.

    Born Jan. 9, 1913 in Greensboro ot the late Josephine Madry and Lee Berkins, he attended public school in Gadsden County, and was a railroad worker until retirement. He was married to Daosy Jakes for over 25 years, and they were blessed with five children. He was a resident of Cocoa for 40 years, and returned to Gadsden County 10 years ago. He was a member of Pine Bloom MB Church, where funeral services will be held April 25 at 11 a.m., with burial in the community cemetery in Greensoboro.
