  • Dodson, William S.

    William Selden Dodson died May 25, 2009, fittingly, on Memorial Day. Funeral services wer held May 30 at St. Peter’s Anglican Church in Tallahassee, with a graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy.

  • Jones, Marrie

    Marrie Jones, 77, of Chattahoochee, died May 18, 2009 in Chattahoochee.

    Services were held May 23 at Greater Bethel Church in Chattahoochee, with burial at UBA Cemetery.

  • Hogue, John

    John Wesley Hogue, 89, of Quincy, died May 24, 2009 in Quincy.

    Funeral services were held May 30 at Bethlehem MB Church, with burial at Springfield Cemetery.

  • Smith, Audrey

    Audrey Isabella Smith, 83, died May 26, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    She is survived by her husband, W.L. Smith Jr.; sister, Patricia Weathers of Ireland; and several nieces and nephews.

    A graveside service was held May 28 at Roselawn Cemetery.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice House, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL 32308.

  • Colvin, Daniel

    Daniel Monroe Colvin, 94, died May 25, 2009 in Panama City.

    Services were held may 28 at Bristol Church of God in Bristol, with burial at Lake Mystic Cemetery.

    Colvin was a native and lifelong resident of Liberty County. He retired after 54 years as a brickmason. He worked on many homes and state buildings in Tallahassee and the surrounding area. He attended Bristol Church of God and loved to hunt and fish.

    He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Orie Colvin of Bristol; and a daughter, Gilda C. Drummond of Bristol.

     

  • Johnson, Sylvester

    Sylvester Johnson, 64, of Greensboro, died May 25, 2009 at home.  Services were held May 30 at Pine Bloom MB Church in Greensboro, with burial following in the Greensboro Community Cemetery. 

  • Cruse Jr., Robert

    Robert Cruse Jr., 61, of Sneads, died May 20, 2009 in Marianna. 

    Services were held May 27 at Sneads Community Church, with burial following in the Little Zion Cemetery in Sneads. 

    He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Joann Cruse of Sneads; children, Stephanie Marie Scott, Robert Wendell Scott, Kindra Sirenna Smith, Stacey Denise Nelson and Robert Earl Cruse, all of Sneads; sister, Helen Green (Russell) of Sneads; 16 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

     

  • Williams, Vernita

    Vernita Jackson Williams, 70, of the St. John Community, died May 21, 2009 at home.

    She was an affiliate member of Highly Exalted Praise Ministries. Services were held May 30 at Highly Exalted Praise Ministries and she was interred in the St. John Church Cemetery.

  • Perez, Violet

    Violet Marie Bast Perez, 97, died May 16, 2009 at River Chase Care Center in Quincy.

    Born July 23, 1011 in Cincinnati, Ohio, she retired from a nursing career in 1976 and moved to Quincy, where she lived until her death.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond J. Perez, and brothers, George, James and John Best.

    Survivors include her sister, Edna Mae Baxter of Atlanta, Ga.; daughters, Judith Parramore (Rainey) of Quincy, Rita Curtis (Harry) of Cincinnati and Rosalie Perez of Tallahassee; and nine grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

  • Green, Mary Ann

    Mary Ann Green, 52, of Gretna, died May 16, 2009 at home. 

    She was a member of St. Stevens Primitive Baptist Church of Gretna. Services were held May 23 at Deliverance Temple First Born Church in the Hardaway Community, with burial following in the St. Paul Church Cemetery in Gretna.
