  • Madge Johnson

    Frances Madge Johnson, 98, died Tuesday, June 18, 2019, at home with her family.
    She was born at Juniper and was the oldest of five children. Madge graduated from high school in Greensboro in 1939. Prior to her marriage, she supported the war effort by working at the shipyard in Panama City.
    Madge was preceded in death by her parents, Hannah Barineau and Lemuel Suber; her husband of 59 years, Col. Marvin M. Johnson; and her sisters, Loyce Suber, Pauline Smith, Joyce Crosby and Mary Mellin.

    Dorothy Dennis, 75, of Quincy, departed this life Monday, June 17, 2019, in Quincy.
    She leaves to cherish her precious memories one son, Henry Dennis Jr. (Sophia) and one daughter, Daisy Dennis, both of Quincy; three brothers, Pastor Robert James Lovett (Carol), Lance Lovett and Todd Lovett (Mona), all of Rochester, N.Y.; two sisters, Brenda Shaw (Jim) and Bridgette Lovett, both of Rochester, N.Y.; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

    Etta Jean Colston, 95, of Quincy, departed this life Monday, June 17, 2019, in Tallahassee.
    She leaves to cherish her precious memories one daughter, Carolyn Collins (Arthur) of Tallahassee; one grandson, Arthur Collins Jr. (Angel) of Orlando; one granddaughter, Natalie Davis of Tallahassee; two sisters, Marilyn Harris of Tallahassee, and Lizzie Mae Ford of Miami; one brother, John Louis Mack of Detroit; three great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

    Jinnie Lew Abney Batts, 79, entered into rest June 15, 2019, at her home.
    She was a longtime resident of Quincy, having moved to Tallahassee in 1989 and then to Monticello in 2000. Jinnie was retired from the Gadsden County School Board and was co-owner of Peddlers Market Place in Monticello. She was a founding member of Thomas Memorial Baptist Church. Jinnie was a member of the War & Reconstruction Krewe of Springtime Tallahassee.

    Willie Joe Williams, 71, of Quincy, departed this life Wednesday, July 10, 2019, in Tallahassee.
    A celebration of life will be 1 p.m. Saturday, July 20, 2019, at Holy Community Inc., Highway 90 in Quincy.
    Williams Funeral Home of Quincy will provide the service for the Williams family.

    Herbert Sweet, 52, of Quincy, departed this life Saturday, July 13, 2019, in Tallahassee, Florida.

  • David Charles

    David Charles, known as “D.C.,” died July 10, 2019, in Quincy, Florida.
    He was the eldest son of Thelma Robinson. He graduated from Carter-Parramore High School in 1966, then went into the U.S. Army, where he fought in the Vietnam War and received a Purple Heart and a half-dozen medals. Unfortunately, he was exposed to Agent Orange in the military service. He was honorably discharged and became a service-connected disabled veteran.
