After coming within one win of reaching the postseason last year, the Panthers football team is looking to make another step in the right direction this season.
According to Head Coach Joey Striplin, the team has put in a lot of time in the weight room this summer in an effort to improve their chances for success. Along with working to get stronger, the team also competed in several 7-on-7 tournaments over the summer.
Striplin said he “feels good” about his team heading into this season: “Some guys have been with me for a few years, and I feel they’re ready to lead the team.”
The team’s motto for the season is simply “dedication.”
Aside from becoming great football players, Coach Striplin also has high expectations for his players inside their classrooms and within their lives.
“I want to see our player’s grade point averages increase. I believe that some of our guys can get to the next level. We also want to make our guys better men.”
Panther Nation can expect to see an up-tempo style of offense, and a hustle style of defense from their team.
“We are gonna try to get in as many plays as possible on offense. On defense we are gonna run the ball and try to stop the run.”
The Panther’s leader also shared his thoughts on what he would like to see from the community in regards to his team: “We would like to see everyone come out, and support us.”
Best of luck to West Gadsden as they press toward the State Championship.
