  • Bobcats prepare for district

    The Robert F. Munroe Baseball team sandwiched their best game of the season between two that were not so good, but typical of several games posted by the young ball club this season.

    The Bobcats completed their regular season schedule with a record of 10 wins and 15 losses as they will now prepare for the District 1-2A tournament that pits them against host John Paul II at 3 p.m. Tuesday (RFM is the No. 2 seed and will be the home team). If they can advance, they will play the winner of Aucilla/FAMU at 6 p.m. Thursday.

  • Munroe girls set to travel to...

    The Munroe softball team is the only county team still playing the game this week. Both East and West Gadsden lost in opening round action to end their seasons.

    Munroe defeated John Paul II on Tuesday night in what started as a close game but then opened up at the end for a win.

  • Munroe student named to FHSAA...

    GAINESVILLE — For the 19th consecutive year, the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) recognized 24 of the top student-athletes around Florida as members of the 2013 Academic All-State Team. The group features nine valedictorians, 12 three-sport athletes and four four-sport athletes among those who will be honored for extraordinary academic achievement and community service in addition to their athletic prowess.

  • Bobcats 1-2 for the week, drops...

    The week started out well enough for the Bobcat baseball team as they easily defeated county rival Tallavana 26-4 on Tuesday. Things changed in Aucilla on Thursday and at home against John Paul II on Friday, with the Bobcats dropping the consecutive district matchups.

  • Victory up for grabs in girls...

    Softball
    This week marks the time in a season where records and batting averages go out the window, and any team can emerge victorious.

    The three county softball teams participate in their district tournaments starting on Tuesday. Munroe will play at Aucilla in the District 1 tournament, East Gadsden will play District 2-4A tournament and West Gadsden will play in the District 4-1A tournament.

    Winners and runners-up will advance to the playoffs next Wednesday (2A, 4A) for regional quarterfinals or Friday (1A semifinals).

  • Bobcats flat after spring break

    The Robert F. Munroe baseball team rode into spring break on a five-game winning streak.
    They returned to drop their next four games.
    Not exactly what they were expecting as they prepare to finish their district schedule this week with games Thursday on the road at 4 p.m. against district leader Aucilla (which is a make-up game from this past Friday) and home Friday at 6 p.m. against John Paul II.

    The Munroe softball team picked up two wins and lost one to the rain. The team struggled against John Paul II in a key district matchup before going ahead in the bottom of the fifth for a narrow 5-4 win.

  • District tennis competition ahead

    Tennis districts are this coming week for Florida High School Athletic Association schools. The Munroe tennis team will look for success this week in the District 1-1A tournament held at Maclay. The 1A district is composed of four teams: Munroe, Maclay, North Florida Christian and John Paul II.

  • Mixed results for week of local...

    SOFTBALL
    West Gadsden was dominated by Blountstown by a 24-0 score in a game shortened to three innings by the mercy rule. Blountstown scored five runs in the first inning and 19 in the second inning.
    Munroe was dominated in similar fashion by Marianna. Marianna scored 20 runs in the first three innings before the game was called. Munroe managed just two hits, one by Kay Fletcher and one by Emilee Harris.

  • Bobcats win four before spring...

    The Bobcats of Robert F. Munroe entered the week with a record of four wins and seven losses. They ended the week with four wins and brought their season and district records up to 8-7 and 3-1, respectively. With no games scheduled for the week due to spring break, the Bobcats return to action with a double-header against Cottondale at home at 5 p.m. Monday, March 25, and a road game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at Rickards.
