  • Munroe takes three on the diamond

    The R. F. Munroe Bobcat baseball team had a successful week last week, defeating Franklin County, Maclay and district rival Aucilla.

    Munroe started the winning week in East Point were the team bested the Franklin County Seahawks 9-3 on Tuesday.

    Right-hander Tommy Murray got the win going the first five innings, allowing only four hits and fanning three. Parth Patel threw the last two frames.

  • Off the Hook...

    The time is now.With daylight saving time in effect, this means more afternoon hours to wet a hook. Along with the full moon this past Tuesday, fishing has come into full swing.

    Dallas Johnson at Ingrams Marina reports bass are being taken in the pads 3 to 6 feet deep.

    The Military Bass Club had a two-day tournament, and the winner weighed in with 10 bass, tipping the scales at 31 pounds. The big fish weighed in at 6.5 pounds.

    Several limits were reported at both local marinas.

  • EGHS on 3-game win streak

    East Gadsden High School lost a Tuesday game to Hamilton County before the Jaguars went on a three-game win spree against county foes in county baseball play last week.

    The loss against Hamilton County in Jasper was by a 10-7 score.

    "We hit pretty well in the game," East Gadsden coach Randall Estelle said. "But our pitching and defense hurt."

    The Jaguars’ Montez Fryson, Cameron Jackson and Davorick Ford had two hits each for their team in a nine-hit attack.

  • Girls softball action sees wins

    The Robert F. Munroe Lady Cats softball team moved to an even 3-3 on the season at the conclusion of last week, winning one and losing one. 

    On Thursday night Maclay ruled the Lady Cats 12-2.  Maclay scored five runs in an error-filled third inning and then pushed six more across in the fifth and sixth innings. 

    Haleigh Corbally got the loss on the mound.  The freshman stuck out four and walked five. Corbally did help her cause from the plate getting two hits and three RBIs. Mary Jane Milam and Spenser Morris each had a hit with an RBI.

  • East Gadsden Jags defeat Altha

    DaVarick Ford struck out nine batters and allowed only two hits in six innings of work last Thursday, leading East Gadsden High School to an 8-4 win over Altha in the Jaguars’ regular season baseball opener.

    Of the four runs Ford gave up, only two were earned.

    Camerson Jackson slapped two hits and drove in three of the Jaguar runs. Montez Fryson, John Price and Dominic Green also had run-scoring hits for East Gadsden.

    John Warner, Ethan Byler and Tyler Huff had the Altha hits.

  • Panthers put up fight in region...

    “I could not have been any prouder of a team," Coach Antonio Bradwell said after his West Gadsden High School boys basketball game Thursday in Franklin County. "We came in undermanned and played very hard."

    The Panthers lost the Region 1-2A game 74-58, but not before hanging around against a talented and much taller Seahawk bunch.

    Using a stall game early, West Gadsden held close until halftime with John Battles doing most of the early scoring for West Gadsden. Battles scored 12 of the Panthers 18 first-half points.

  • Lady Cats defeat Liberty County

    The Robert F. Munroe Lady Cats softball team lost a close one, lost a 10-run rule contest and won a close one all in the opening week of the season. 

    On a cool Monday night the team succumbed in the bottom of the seventh 9-8 at Rickards.  Leading 4-1 in the third the Lady Cats gave up six runs, five on errors, and left the inning down 7-4. 

    The team posted four runs in the top of the fifth and gave up one.  The sixth inning was scoreless and the team could not push a run across in the top of the seventh.

  • Munroe off to 3-1 baseball start

    The Robert F. Munroe baseball team won its first three games of the season before running into Maclay Monday.

    The Bobcats defeated Altha 12-2 Feb. 16, knocked off Blountstown 31-3 on the 17th and bested Wewahitchka 15-11 on the 20th.

    Brock Hinson was the winning pitcher against Altha with a one-hit, nine strike-out performance.

    Clay Kramm was the top hitter for Munroe with three hits. Miller Joyner, Sam Young and Alex Gay slapped two hits each. Joyner poked a double and a triple and knocked in four runs.

  • West Gadsden splits in baseball

    West Gadsden High School defeated Blountstown 13-4 last Thursday and lost to John Paul II 12-3 Monday night as they began baseball play.

    In the Blountstown game, Quantez Houge was the winning pitcher, going six innings and fanning 14.

    Demarcus Richardson had three hits for the Panthers and Houge, Brandon Moore and Devontez Travis had two each. Houge drove in three runs and scored four times.

    West Gadsden got only one hit in the John Paul II game. The Tallahassee team's Patrick O'Neil was the winning pitcher. He also hit a home run and had six RBIs in the game.

  • WGHS boys only team to advance

    The West Gadsden High School Panthers are the only county team to make it out of the district playoffs in boys FHSAA basketball.

    The team defeated Wewahitchka in a semifinal District 3-2A game on Friday night in Wewahitchka after trailing by 11 points late in the third period. The Panthers made a strong run the last 12 minutes of the contest, pulling out a 59-42 win.

    Guards John Battles and Jesse Winbush led the spurt with quick scores off of steals. Battles finished with 22 points and Winbush hit 17. Mario Williams added 10 to the Panther total.
