  • Munroe finishes season with 19...

    Mike Troblstrup had just watched his Robert F. Munroe Day School baseball team lose its final regular season game to Wakulla County 10-0 Friday night.

    The 1A Bobcats scheduled the tougher 3A War Eagles in a tune-up for upcoming district play.

    Ryan Smith and Shay Barwick pitched the shutout and Barwick had a pair of two-run doubles.

  • Munroe tennis team earns post-...

    The Class A District 2 tennis districts for were held last week at Maclay School and the Munroe team finished in  second place. 

    Runner-up Coach Carolyn Summerford  and her team of six headed to South Walton Beach to take on the very strong District 1 champions at  South Walton High. 

    Finishing second in a tough district in a sport that only has two classifications is no small feat.

  • Softball action heads into...

    District softball tournaments are this week and baseball the next.  Munroe (9-9) will host the girls Class A District 3 tournament as the second seed. 

    Aucilla, undefeated in district play, is the top seed and John Paul II is the last seed. The Lady Cats and John Paul II played on Tuesday of this week with the winner squaring off on  Thursday against Aucilla.

  • Red Birds shut out Jackson Co....

    Jamie Holcomb and Pat Jones combined for shutout pitching and the bats were alive in Sneads Sunday, as the Chattahoochee Red Birds slammed the Jackson County Jays 12-0.

    Holcomb struck out seven and allowed only one hit in four innings of work while Jones hurled three innings of hitless ball with five strikeouts.

    Chattahoochee got home runs from Ben Young and Holcomb, who wound up with three RBIs on the day.

    Austin Riano, Demetric Miller, Parker Herd and Jones also had run-scoring hits.

  • EGHS’ Bell, Gee head...

    Torriah Bell and Dontrioius Gee qualified in jumping events and will represent East Gadsden High School in the State 2A track meet in Orlando Saturday.

    Bell, a freshman, had a long jump of 17-1 3/4 to gain fourth place in the girls long jump Region 1 event Friday at Godby.

    Gee, a senior, was second in the boys long jump with a leap of 22-9.

    Both athletes are capable of having high place finishes in the state.

  • Good fishin' on the rise at...

    Finally!!

    After many days of not-so-favorable fishing weather, we were blessed with ideal conditions to enjoy a day on the lake. Even with the water being slightly muddy, good reports have been coming in at both Whippoorwill and Ingrams marinas. Both RV parks were filled with fish-hungry folks.With the water conditions, catfishing still remains strong almost anywhere on the lake. Prepared catfish bait and worms are your best bet.

  • Off The Hook

    As I began to write this week's column, I tried to recall in years, March and April with weather like we have had this year. With another front moving through this past week, high winds and more rain stopped fishing for the most part. The lake level is normal; however, the water is still heavily stained but seems to be clearing.

  • EGHS qualifies tracksters for...

    The East Gadsden High School track team saw action in the 2-2A District Meet last Wednesday at Godby.

    Torriah Bell led a contingent of girls into the 2-A regional while Frazier Parker was the top competitor on the boys team.

    Bell, a freshman transfer from Texas, qualified for the region in four events. She won the district long jump with a 17-5 leap, which is second in the state overall. Bell also qualified with a second in the triple jump. She was on a third place team in the 400-meter relay and a fourth place team in the 1,600-meter relay.

  • Bobcats edge by Wewahitchka 11-10

    The Robert F. Munroe Bobcats scored nine first-inning runs but had to hold off Wewahitchka late to win an 11-10 baseball game at home Friday night.

    The Bobcats took advantage of Wewahitchka pitches wildness to build the early lead. Brock Hinson got the pitching win and Sam Young and Parth Patel each had two hits to lead the offense. It was Hinson's sixth win of the year.

    Munroe lost a home game to Brookwood Thursday night but defeated John Paul II Tuesday 13-1 in an away game.

  • West Gadsden has two first in...

    West Gadsden athletes won two events in the District 3-A Meet last Saturday.

    Joshua Weston won the high jump, leaping 5-10. Brandon Thomas won the 400-meter dash with a time of 51.03.

    Both qualified for the regional that will be held this weekend.
