  • Fumbles hurt WGHS in lost to...

    Five lost fumbles hurt the West Gadsden offensive effort in the Panthers’ 13-0 loss to Florida High in a spring football game in Tallahassee Friday night.

    The Seminoles’ Jack Metz returned one of those fumbles for a touchdown. Florida High also scored points on 32- and 39-yard field goals by Chase Varnadore.

    West Gadsden’s Shermonta Hollins appeared to have scored a touchdown in the third quarter but it was called back because of a penalty.

  • Off the Hook

    Even with the weather conditions, reports of good catches are coming in to both Ingrams and Whippoorwill marinas. Memorial Day weekend saw the local campgrounds filled with folks ready to "wet a hook."

    On May 18, Buddy Hosey took a five-bass limit weighing 15 pounds. Gerald Biddle from Crawfordville weighed in a lunker at 10.27 pounds.

    Nice catches of bream and catfish are being caught from the docks at both marinas.

  • WGHS’ Thomas earns top...

    West Gadsden High School track standout Brandon Thomas became the school’s first state champion by winning the 400-meter in the Class A state meet in Winter Garden May 1.

    Thomas gained a state berth by winning both the district and region in the event.

    “I felt a little nervous before I got to the track,” he said. “But then I relaxed and felt I would win.”

    Thomas started in lane three in the staggered event and by the last turn had caught up. He then sped on to a time of 49.5, which was the top time in the two-heat event.

  • EGHS, WGHS in spring games this...

    Both East and West Gadsden high schools will play in football spring games this week.

    East Gadsden will journey to DeFuniak Springs and take on Walton County Thursday night. Game time is 8 p.m.

    West Gadsden will play Florida High in Tallahassee Friday night in a 7 p.m. game.

  • Bobcats lose 3-1 to Eagle&...

    The Robert F. Munroe Day School Bobcats gave it their all, but a pair of errors and lack of a key hit kept the team from advancing in FHSAA baseball play as they lost 3-1 to Eagle's View in a Region 1-A playoff game in Jacksonville last Tuesday.

    Senior right-hander Cody Watson pitched a gusty game for Munroe allowing only two hits and no earned runs. A first inning fielding error and a third inning throwing error allowed Eagle's View to score their runs and end the Bobcat baseball season at 20-6.

  • Spring football practice...

    "It's hot, I'll say that," East Gadsden High School head football coach Scott Anderson said when asked about how spring football was going. The Jaguars, along with West Gadsden High and Robert F. Munroe, started practice May 1 and are about midway the allowed practice time.

    "We've been working a lot on positions and schemes." Anderson said. He has 80 players out this spring.

    The Jaguars will play a scrimmage this Friday night at 7 p.m. after the team hosts a clinic for youth league and middle school coaches that will begin at 4 p.m.

  • Dodgers hammer Knights in...

    The Quincy Dodgers hammered the Tallahassee Knights 22-7 in a road game Sunday.

    Pitcher Donnell Brown benefited from the onslaught and he also added to it.

    Brown not only got the win but he collected three hits, including a home run.

    Randy Rodriquez also had three hits and Marcus Easland, Kevin Seymore, Brian Elkins and Danny Young had two hits each.

    The Dodgers lifted their record to 5-1 with the win. The will host the Concord Warriors this Sunday a 3 pm.

  • Munroe advances in baseball play

    Robert F. Munroe Day School couldn't hold off the Aucilla bats Thursday and the Bobcats found themselves runner-ups in District 3-1A after a 12-8 loss.

    Aucilla slapped 13 hits in the championship game and jumped out to a 9-0 lead.

    Munroe made a game of it by scoring seven runs, cutting it to 9-7 in the top of the seventh before the Warriors got three runs to put the game away.

    Matt Bishop and Marcus Roberts had three hits each for Aucilla and Casey Wheeler and Trent Roberts had two hits.

  • Jaguars lose a tough one to Godby

    The East Gadsden High School Jaguars gave it all they had last Monday before losing to Godby 5-4 in the District 2-3A Baseball tournament in Tallahassee.

    Makarious Murray pitched an outstanding game allowing only four hits in five innings of work. Murray and the Jaguars held a 4-2 lead until the bottom of the fifth when a pair of walks and an error helped Godby to three runs and the lead.

    East Gadsden got a first-inning run when Montez Fryson singled in John Price.

  • Lady Cats lost in regional play

    The Robert F. Munroe Lady Cats softball team was disposed of in regional quarterfinals by Eagle’s View Academy in Jacksonville on Tuesday.

    Eagle’s View, the defending Class A state softball champions, won the game handily 16-0. Last year the Lady Cats played EVA to a tight 3-2 contest but this was not the case last week.
