  • Jags take loss against Raiders

    While West Gadsden’s Panthers had an open date, East Gadsden High’s Jaguars faced off against the Rickards Raiders last Friday night. The scoreboard showed the Raiders on top 34-6 at the final buzzer.

    According to reports, both teams had a hard time hanging on to the ball. The Jags intercepted two Raider QB tosses, and were intercepted once.

    The Jags did, however, rack up more yardage on the ground, due mostly to 92  rushing yards by East Gadsden’s Montez Fryson.

  • East meets West in cross-county...

    The East Gadsden High School Jaguars leaves the West Gadsden Panthers scoreless after posting a 21-0 win last Friday night in the cross-county rivals’ Superintendent’s Cup season opener.

    East Gadsden’s first score came with 5:35 on the clock after a big catch, which was followed up with a quarterback-keeper from Donterrius Garrett. The point after was good, to make the score 7-0. EGHS was stopped on fourth-and-10 in the red zone and West Gadsden took over on its own 1-yard line, but a fumble caused a safety for the Jags, leading to a 9-0 game.

  • Volleyball kicks off county-wide

    The Robert F. Munroe Day School volleyball team opened the 2009 season with two wins last week. 

    On Monday night the team traveled to Bainbridge to take on Grace Christian.  The Lady Cats won all three games and the match, with scores of 25-20, 25-20 and 25-16.

    Munroe was led offensively by senior outside hitter Spenser Morris.  Morris finished the match with 10 kills.

  • RFM duffers open season with win

    The Robert F. Munroe Day School golf team opened its season by placing second in a five-way match held last week at Southwood.

    Munroe’s team combined for a 175 on nine holes with four players.  The winning team, Len High School, scored a 154. 

    Munroe defeated Florida High, FAMU and Rickards.  Top golfer for the Bobcats was Clay Kramm with a 40 followed by eighth grader Fletcher Morgan with a 41. 

    Morgan also birdied the first hole.

  • Local boxer takes title

    Preparation is the key to winning.

    That's the philosophy of Tavoris Cloud, International Boxing Federation Light Heavyweight Champion of the World. The Quincy native defeated Clinton Woods in a battle of punches for the championship belt at Seminole Hard Rock Casino Aug. 28 in Hollywood. The fight went the length, 12 rounds, before a  unanimous decision from three judges was delivered.

  • Jags win one, lose one in...

    East Gadsden High School’s Jaguars brought home the first victory of the season after a run-in with the Marianna Bulldogs in  a preseason classic last  weekend.

    In the first half of play, the teams faced off with Marianna hitting the field minus four starters due to injury or illness.

    The Jags took the opening ball 80 years and landed the extra point to make the game 7-0 with 7 minutes left in the first quarter.

  • West Gadsden game called due to...

    The Kick-Off Classic was supposed to be the proving ground for the West Gadsden High School Panthers. Unfortunately, inclement weather forced the referee to suspend the game with 3:10 left in the first quarter.

    The Panthers found shelter in the "Dog House." It was pouring rain, but the mood inside the "Dog House" was optimistic. The Panthers were only able to run one series on both offense and defense. However, much was revealed in less than 9 minutes of play following about 3 weeks of practice.

  • Tallavana Christian welcomes new...

    Tallavana Christian School is pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Crowe as head boys basketball coach for the TCS Lions.

    Crowe, a graduate of Purdue University, is an experienced coach having served as head junior varsity and freshman basketball coach and varsity assistant coach at Chiles High School in Leon County since 2002.  

    He is well-known in the community as a coach in the summer youth league.

    QPRD football Draft Day will be held Sept. 5 at 9 a.m. at Corry Field for tackle football players ages 8-13 years old. All coaches, assistant coaches, players and parents are encouraged to attend.

    All players must be registered with QPRD in order to participate. Players may register during the draft.

    City of Quincy Parks and Recreation Department King Street  pool lifeguards ended the summer with a bang Aug. 15. Attendees enjoyed water games and lunch. A certificate and medal was presented to each swimmer for his or her performance in swim lessons. Submitted
