  • East Gadsden takes big win at...

    East Gadsden High School’s Jaguars couldn’t have asked for a better homecoming night – brisk, chilly air, royalty crowned and a victory over FAMU High.

    The final score was 21-6, with the Jags taking their first win of the regular season and amping their record to 2-5 overall.

    But the win didn’t come without trouble. Early on in the second quarter, running back Montez Fryson suffered a knee injury, taking him out for the rest of the game. Prior to the injury, Fryson had racked up 60 yards rushing and a TD.

  • Panthers take hit against Sharks...

    West Gadsden’s Panthers faced an undefeated Port St. Joe team Friday night, and at the final buzzer, the Tiger Sharks remained undefeated. The Sharks took the win 15-6.

    The win came despite the Sharks’ worst offensive performance of the year. The Sharks turned the ball over four times in the first half, and tallied 81 yards in penalties. The team remains 5-1 overall and 3-0 in the district.

  • Chamber bass tournament set for...

    TDS presents the Gadsden County Chamber of Commerce’s 2009 Bass Fishing Tournament Oct. 17 at Lake Talquin. Hundreds of fishing fans and their families are expected to take part in the tournament that helps raise funds for the GadsdenLEARN scholarship program available through Tallahassee Community College.

  • Lady Cats take wins against WG,...

    A talented Liberty County volleyball team won their 16th game of the season against district opponent West Gadsden last week.

    In other action, the Munroe Lady Cats won three matches last week with wins over West Gadsden, Altha (district) and Community Christian to run their record to 13-3 on the season. The team lost only one game the entire week when they dropped a 20-25 contest to Altha.

    Courtney Mayo had seven aces and six kills to put a fine game together for the Lady Cats as they hosted West Gadsden.

  • RFM golf team closes season at...

    The Robert F. Munroe Day School golf team finishes up its regular season this week with two matches at The Golf Club of Quincy. 

    The team, coached by Kevin Smith, is currently 14-9 on the season and has lost only two district matches. Both were against Big Bend golf powers Wakulla and Maclay. Other losses were to much larger non-district schools Leon and Chiles. The team split with Lincoln.

    The team performed especially well in Tallahassee last week at the City Championships, finishing fourth out of 17 teams with a team score of 162 on nine holes.

  • East Gadsden falls to Taylor...

    Despite taking an early lead, the East Gadsden High School Jaguars took a hit from Taylor County, as the final score read 16-7.

    The loss places the Jags’ record at 1-5 on the season. The team hosts FAMU High this Friday night.

    West Gadsden’s Panthers fell to Blountstown 26-12.

    The Panthers, now 0-5 on the season, will play at Port St. Joe this Friday night.

  • ‘Rare night&rsquo...

    The lights at Destin Middle School’s football field were bright, indeed, last Friday night as the visiting Robert F. Munroe Day School Bobcats ran and passed their way to a 52-0 victory over the Knights of Rocky Bayou Christian.  The stadium lighting was, no doubt, intensified by the simultaneous glow of the Bobcat light bulbs that all seemed to click on after a rough start to the season.

    On Monday night Robert F. Munroe Day School’s Lady Cats defeated North Florida Christian, on Tuesday they lost to Maranatha while raising money for breast cancer awareness, and on Thursday the Munroe team defeated FAMU in a key district match.

  • East Gadsden takes loss on the...

    East Gadsden High School’s Jaguars gave the Chiles Timberwolves a run for their money in a homecoming matchup on the road. In the end, Chiles came out on top, 37-20.

    During the first half of play, the Jags showed promise, and the score was tied up at 20-20 at the buzzer.

    But in the second half, Chiles scored on three straight drives. The Timberwolves moved the ball 80 yards in 10 plays, and added points to the board, making the  score 3-20.

  • Panthers shut out at Corry Field

    West Gadsden High’s Panthers hung in there but took a heavy loss Friday night against Rickards as the visiting team dominated play and took home a win at Corry Field.

    Rickards (3-1) scored on four straight possessions in the first half, and went on to win the game in a shutout, 54-0.

    The loss puts the Panthers’ season record at 0-4. WGHS hosts the Blountstown Tigers (4-0) this week.
