  • Step Up, Gadsden program kicks...

    The music was playing and everyone was having a good time April 15 in the gymnasium Carter-Parramore Academy May 15 during the Step Up, Gadsden, Be Smart, Be Healthy! challenge. The event is part of "Step Up, Florida!" and was intended to get Floridians off the couch and into a exercise program.

  • RFM ends season with regional win

    The Robert F. Munroe softball team won its regional quarterfinal contest against visiting Central High School of Milton by a 9-2 score on Tuesday night.  The win marked the Lady Cats’ first playoff win since 1999.  

    Haleigh Corbally got the win from the mound with 13 strikeouts and no hits.  Hitting for the Cats were Kristen Allen, Corbally and Courtney Mayo with two hits each, and Corbally tallied two RBIs.  Allen stole two bases and scored two runs.  Montana Manley hit a double in the third inning.

  • Baseball, softball season comes...

    Havana Middle School’s softball and baseball season has reached its end. Baseball team members, shown at left, included Dre'Michael Lamb, Antoine Williams, Jerimiah O'Neal-Havin,Tavaros Horne, Greg Manley, Kinterris Brundige, Montreal Davis, Christopher Corniel, Nicholas Harris, Delfino Cruz, Jeffery Finch, Eric Green and Javoris Jones. Softball team members, below left, were Serria Powe, Pricilla Tobias, Cartesia Moore, Clinesia Gurly, Ambrosia Akins, Shambria jones, Albreshia Spivey, Shakeria McGriff, Jerrica Finch and Jazlynae Chandler.   • RFM softball team wins first...

    The second season of softball began last week and while both East and West Gadsden high school teams exited early, Robert F. Munroe pulled off a stunning upset over Aucilla Christian to take home the Class A District 2 title.

    East Gadsden lost to Taylor County 17-7 and West Gadsden was dropped by Wewahitchka 20-1.

  • Winners take home prizes,...

    The Rusty Leverette Memorial Tournament was held at Lake Talquin recently, with Dave Mitchell and Ken O’Neal taking first place. Hunter Moore was the Big Crappie winner. Moore also took second place with his partner, Jamie Moore. Coming in at third was Danny Cannon and Becky Evans, while Scott and Mary Ellyn Williams claimed fourth place.

  • Quincy Heat takes top spot in...

    The Quincy Heat Girls 13 and under basketball team participated in the Tallahassee Comets Shootout at Florida A&M University April 9-11.

    Each game was intense. Running plays, teamwork, and attacking on offense and defense led the girls to the top.

    The first game, Quincy Heat vs. Dream, came down to a buzzer-beater. Shareika Gaymon scored the game-winning basket with 2 seconds left.  The Heat won 31-29.

    The Heat also played the Tallahassee Comets, the hosting team.  The girls played extremely well.  The final score was 48-13.

  • Chattahoochee Red Birds off to...

    The Washington County Bruins remain the only unbeaten team in the Big Bend Baseball League of Florida, with a 4-0 record in the Western Division.

    The Liberty County Diamond Dawgs in the Eastern Division lost their first game of the season to the Gulf County Drive by a score of 13-10.

    The Diamond Dawgs still remain in first place in the Eastern Division followed closely in second place by the Calhoun Horsemen, with a 3-1 record, after taking a double-header from the Chattahoochee Red Birds, 5-3 and 3-1, bringing the Red Birds season record to 0-5.
