  • Holidays busy in girls basketball

Although it was a two week holiday break, all good coaches know their teams must play some basketball over the holidays to stay in shape. Both Munroe and West Gadsden participated in the Holiday Classic at Rickards before Christmas and faced much larger schools. Munroe played only one game while West Gadsden played two.

Munroe dropped their one game to Chiles 54-19. Kadejah Glynn scored seven points in the loss. West Gadsden lost to Lincoln 37-18. Danielle Parks also scored seven points for the Panthers.

The Lady Cats defeated the Lady Lions in a 2A-District 1 competition at the Munroe gym last Thursday night. Audrey Thomas used her height to her advantage, and the senior center earned a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Mollie Edwards followed with 12 points. Edwards and Kaitlyn Sirmons dished out four assists each, and Kadejah Glynn recorded three steals.

  • Serving up success

Local tennis star Hilary Flournoy has had many scholarship offers from all around, but she has made her final decision.
She will be attending Georgia South Western University in Americus, Ga.

She loves the college because of its beautiful campus, outstanding academics, and most of all, the tough division II athletic conference the tennis team is in.

She said all the hard work has finally paid off, and she plans to work even harder now to show the college it made a great choice recruiting her.

  • West Gadsden girls garner three...

Although all three county teams played last week, only West Gadsden came away with a win — three of them, to be exact. Munroe lost three contests, two that they led at the half and East Gadsden dropped one to Florida High.
