  • Panthers one game away from...

    One week after defeating Chipley High,  the Panthers of West Gadsden stepped into the Lakeland Center to take on Hawthorne High.
    The Panthers were able to successfully use their 1-3-1 defense to slow down the Hornets. Hawthorne’s leading scorer, Devin Lawrence was held in check by West Gadsden the entire game due in large part to Andrew Reddick.

  • Tallavana boys fall in semifinal

    Tallavana Christian (4-15) playing in the 2A Region 1 semifinals ran up on a very strong Temple Christian basketball team from Jacksonville.  
    Temple Christian were the 2A District champions and ran up an impressive 24-3 record on the season.  Tallavana Christian was runner-up in the 2A-Region 1 tournament.  
    Temple jumped out to a 22-10 first-quarter lead and staked a 43-16 lead by the half.  They poured on 30 more points in the second half.

  • Basketball season ends for...

    East Gadsden 47
     Florida High rallied from two points down in the third quarter to defeat East Gadsden in a battle that sent the winner to the Region 1-5A finals.  The Jaguars mounted a third-quarter comeback after trailing 27-23 at the half.  They outscored the Noles 14-7 in the third
    quarter.
    Leading East Gadsden was Jamiya Bittle, who finished with 25 points.  The East Gadsden Lady Jags finished their regular season 17-10.

  • After claiming district title,...

    After securing another district championship, West Gadsden completed the next step toward the 1A State Tournament this past Friday with a huge 94-56 play-off victory over Baker High. The Panther Nation was in full effect in Greensboro to witness their team’s dominant performance.
    West Gadsden controlled the game on both ends of the floor during the first half. Defensively the Panthers implemented their 1-3-1 full-court press, and offensively Andrew Reddick and Mark Bradwell continuously attacked the basket.

  • Munroe, Tallavana seeing...

    The Munroe Bobcats dropped their final two games of the regular season this past week to end their regular season winless.  Tallavana Christian was idle.

    The team travelled to Monticello to face the Tigers and came home with a loss.  Jefferson County led 38-23 at halftime.
    Munroe did have two players in double figures.  Isaiah Glynn scored 12 points for the Bobcats and Max Rhinehart added 10 points on 6-for-8 shooting from the free-throw line.

  • Three county girls teams facing...

    This past week’s district tournament sent only one county  team home, but allowed three teams to advance to state series competition. One team, West Gadsden, emerged with a championship trophy, while two teams, East Gadsden and Tallavana Christian, continue to compete despite losing the finals.

  • Coach Joe Striplin to fill...

    After orchestrating an historic 10-2 season at West Gadsden including a play-off appearance, Coach Joey Striplin has been chosen as the new head coach at East Gadsden. The vacancy  was a result of Coach Corey Fuller’s move to Godby High School in Tallahassee.
    This past Monday marked the start of Striplin’s journey. Aside from the coaching change, it is also proposed that  East and West Gadsden will merge into one high school in the near future.

    The Bobcats dropped three games last week in their next to last week of the regular season.

    Down by only four points at halftime, the Bobcats were outscored 32-18 in the second half for the loss. Isaiah Glynn and Matthew Salters combined for 27 points and seven three-pointers.  Salters and Max Reinhard each pulled down seven rebounds in the loss.

  • Gadsden girls basketball:...

    West Gadsden
    The West Gadsden Lady Panthers dropped their last two games of the season by a total of five points.  First they lost 44-42 to Chiles and then lost three days later to Godby by a 55-52 score
    The team will be participating in the 1A District 4 tournament this week as the No. 1 seed.  The team finished 6-0 in district play and will participate in their four-team tournament this week at Liberty County.  The finals are at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2.

  • Lions, Bobcats see tough week on...

    The Munroe Bobcats have made steady improvement since their season opener Nov. 18.  
    One of the main reasons for that improvement has been the play of senior guard Matthew Salters.  Salters, a three-sport standout, did not play basketball last season but waited until his senior season to play.  Coach Andrew Eads could not be happier.  
    Going back to Jan.y 10, Salters has tallied double figures in scoring and rebounding for seven straight games.
