  • Panthers win at free-throw line

    Last Friday in a Thanksgiving tournament hosted by Rickards High, West Gadsden found themselves matched up against a scrappy P.K. Yonge team from Gainesville. Both teams played a very physical game on the defensive end of the court, which led to many trips to the free-throw line. The Panthers played solid offense for the final two minutes of the second quarter. Two big shots from the charity strip by senior forward Mark Bradwell, gave West Gadsden  22-19 lead at the intermission.

  • Girls basketball picking up the...

    After a down week ending with a Thanksgiving break, our county girls basketball teams will be gaining steam again starting this week.
    The Lady Jaguars will play Taylor County with their boys team and then host Marianna on Thursday in a district matchup.  Munroe will not play until Friday because of a junior trip.  They will play at  John Paul II. They lost to John Paul the first week of the season.

  • Panthers finish record-breaking...

    The West Gadsden Panthers’ record-breaking football season has come to an end.  
    They finished the season with 10 wins and two losses, the season’s last to the Blountstown Tigers in the regional finals.
    “We had the best record in the school’s history,” said Coach Joseph Striplin.  “We broke a lot of school records.”

    A few months after winning their district and ultimately falling in the Regional Finals, East Gadsden Jaguar Coach Reginald Cunningham watch the majority of his team walk across the graduation stage. As a result, East Gadsden’s leader will enter this season with a lot of youthful

  • Scorpions aim to make a...

    After competing for the first time on the junior varsity level last season, Crossroad Academy is embarking upon their first varsity season in the school’s history this year under the leadership of Andonte Gennie, who lead the JV team this past season.
    Coach Gennie has plans to build a solid foundation for his school’s program during this season.
    “In my first year I look to have a positive influence on these young men on and off the court. My main goal for this year is to make sure that we grow as a team week in and week out.”

  • Jags run over Rutherford

    Last Friday the Jaguars followed up their big homecoming victory against Bay High  with a dominant performance against Rutherford High.
    Rutherford received the ball to start the game and began to hit East Gadsden with a successful run-heavy offense.
    Despite giving up several big runs, the Jaguar defense put together a big goal-line stance and stopped the Rams on a huge fourth-down play near the 1-yard line with 7:33 left to play in the opening quarter.

    In this final week of regular season volleyball, teams shored up their lineups and worked hard to prepare themselves for the district tournaments to be played this week.

    The Lady Cats went 1-2 in their final week of scheduled games to finish the regular season 10-13.

  • Jags standing tall at homecoming

    Jag Nation was in full effect on this past Friday for East Gadsden’s homecoming game against Bay High.
    The Jaguars received a huge roar from the crowd as they ran onto the field to prepare for the start of the game. Bay looked to silence the home crowd early as they rolled the dice on a fourth-down play inside East Gadsden’s 5-yard line that resulted in a 3-yard touchdown run with 7:45 left in the opening quarter.

    This week marks the final week of the regular season for Florida high-school volleyball.  Next week our four county teams will participate in their district tournaments and compete for the privilege of extending their seasons into state series competition.  In action this past week:
