  • Bobcats flat after spring break

    The Robert F. Munroe baseball team rode into spring break on a five-game winning streak.
    They returned to drop their next four games.
    Not exactly what they were expecting as they prepare to finish their district schedule this week with games Thursday on the road at 4 p.m. against district leader Aucilla (which is a make-up game from this past Friday) and home Friday at 6 p.m. against John Paul II.

    The Munroe softball team picked up two wins and lost one to the rain. The team struggled against John Paul II in a key district matchup before going ahead in the bottom of the fifth for a narrow 5-4 win.

  • District tennis competition ahead

    Tennis districts are this coming week for Florida High School Athletic Association schools. The Munroe tennis team will look for success this week in the District 1-1A tournament held at Maclay. The 1A district is composed of four teams: Munroe, Maclay, North Florida Christian and John Paul II.

  • Mixed results for week of local county girls sports

    SOFTBALL
    West Gadsden was dominated by Blountstown by a 24-0 score in a game shortened to three innings by the mercy rule. Blountstown scored five runs in the first inning and 19 in the second inning.
    Munroe was dominated in similar fashion by Marianna. Marianna scored 20 runs in the first three innings before the game was called. Munroe managed just two hits, one by Kay Fletcher and one by Emilee Harris.

  • Bobcats win four before spring break

    The Bobcats of Robert F. Munroe entered the week with a record of four wins and seven losses. They ended the week with four wins and brought their season and district records up to 8-7 and 3-1, respectively. With no games scheduled for the week due to spring break, the Bobcats return to action with a double-header against Cottondale at home at 5 p.m. Monday, March 25, and a road game at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, at Rickards.

  • Bobcats win one, lose one

    Robert F. Munroe hung on to win a close game Feb. 20 against the visiting Jaguars of East Gadsden. Behind the pitching of starter Andrew Higdon, the Bobcats jumped out to a 5-2 lead after five innings. The Bobcat offense featured a 2-run homer by third-baseman Myles Edwards.

  • Rain a spoilsport for Gadsden girls

    The rain has wreaked havoc on the schedules of all high school’s outdoor sports over the past few weeks. The Munroe Lady Cats managed to squeeze in one game last week. The team took on Franklin County at home and lost to the coastal team 11-5. Franklin County jumped out to a 10-0 lead, but just before the 10-run mercy rule could take effect, the Lady Cats pushed across five runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Franklin County scored one more in the top of the sixth, but the Lady Cats would not score again.

  • Bobcats start season with 1 win, 2 losses

    The Munroe Bobcats opened their 2013 regular season Feb. 13 with an 8-5 defeat at the hands of the rival Marauders of Maclay School.  The game was originally scheduled for Tuesday, but was postponed for a day due to inclement weather.

    Softball season opened to a cold, wet week with teams managing to get in a few innings. Munroe jumped out to a 2-0 record with wins over East Gadsden and Altha.

  • Panthers, Jaguars headed to playoffs

    The West Gadsden Panthers won their district last week, and as a result will be hosting Sneads High School on Feb. 21. The Panthers capped off their regular season by winning a thriller in overtime against rival East Gadsden.
