I am listing these "10 unpleasant facts," as they were called in the Oct. 25, 2010, issue of the Wall Street Journal because someone shared them with me and I want to share it with our readers. There is a lot of work to be done in the black community. These facts won't go away by wishing them away or pretending they're not true. Ask any teacher, social worker, judge or law enforcement officer in our county and find out for yourself. This is disturbing/

  • Bypass work on track

Progress on the Quincy Bypass, which will connect State Road 12 to U.S. Highway 90 near Ralph Strong Road and the Capital Regional Medical Center Gadsden Campus, is about 30 percent complete and work on the project is moving at a steady pace, according to Anthony Manos, project engineer.

“Much of the clearing is done about a third of the drainage is complete and about 30 percent of the earthwork has been done,” Manos said.

  • Don't be fooled by the nice weather

I put off my spring flower planting. It wasn't easy either.
I didn't make the same mistake this year as I did last year. I didn't let the weather fool me with the few warm days we have experienced in the past weeks. Not that I wasn't tempted to go to garden shops and bring home a truck filled with tender flowers just waiting for me to put in the ground. Just like babies, they look so cute when they're little.

Reading a book about a place I am about to visit or spend some time has been one of my greatest thrills in life.† If its a good reading experience you become more excited and thrilled with the idea of finally arriving at your new destination, especially if its a long dreamed about vacation spot or a new home in more pleasant surroundings.

There is so much going on downtown Quincy that it would be a shame to miss it. First, I think that the community owes CRA/MainStreet Director Charles Hayes a pat on the back for the work he has put into bringing people downtown. Now we have regulars from Tallahassee and other areas joining our citizens to enjoy music. fun and fellowship.

No, Joan, please tell that nice grandmother friend of yours that I
really don’t want to take on tutoring her grandchild. I like helping
out the kids here at LBJ, and I’m finding more and more
    that they really need me.”
I had been volunteering out at the LBJ CCC camp in Franklin,

I am so sick of this year's crop of political candidates. I am sick of the nasty, mean-spirited television commercials I grab the remote control as soon as one comes on. I try my very best to dodge them or at least hit the mute button as quickly as possible.
