I hope that you are having a relatively stress-free week readers.  I certainly hope so; you  deserve it with the trying times we are living in.

I’m afraid I might be like many of you and certainly have been having my share of anxious moments.  But, then, most all of us have lived long enough to have learned that life was not meant to be lived as a carefree one.

If you watch or read the news often enough you have probably found it to be a rather depressing experience with little or no good news thrown into the mix.

The Gadsden County Coalition for Change (of which I am a member) is a no budget public service group of local citizens whose work supports the county's food banks, library system and Shanks Middle School. Our belief is that one is not likely to learn if hungry or if there are inadequate reading materials, or if there is a lack of support for the student.

Every healthy student in Gadsden County is capable of learning deeply – learning that happens at home and is reinforced in the classroom. It's through reinforcement and repetition that the brain learns.

Alpha UPKUDO Martial Arts and Fitness School, located  in Havana, hosted a seminar for world fighting champion  Grand Master Gary Lee Baker Feb. 6. Baker, a ninth-degree black belt, worked with more than 30 children, teens and adults to sharpen up their techniques, and give them inspiration and strategies on how they could one day become world champions. Baker founded the style of UPKUDO after years of competing in full contact, point and continuous fighting. He is fondly known as the "Human Tornado," due to his ability to do aerial techniques and explosive speed.

 The Gadsden County Public Library System will be presenting a series of adult computer training workshops through May 5.  Classes will run 5:45-7:45 p.m. at the McGill Library in Quincy, Havana Library and Cowen Library in Chattahoochee.  Topics to be covered include Computer Basics, Internet Explorer, E-mail, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.  Registration is limited to availability each night of class.  Arrive early to book your seat.  See the complete schedule below, or phone 627-7106 for more information.
