Sam Hawkins turned himself in Feb. 12 in connection with the death of a horse abandoned at the Gadsden County Animal Shelter Oct. 10, 2009.
Hawkins went to the State Attorney’s Office, and was arrested after it was decided that criminal charges should be filed. He is out on $5,000 bond.
If convicted, Hawkins could face up to 5 years in prison. No date has yet been set for trial.
