  • Senior center open amidst issues

    The Gadsden Senior Citizens Center is still serving seniors and all programs will continue to operate uninterrupted, according to Janice Wise, executive director of the Area Agency on Aging for North Florida Inc.

    Two weeks ago the president and vice-president of the center’s board of directors resigned. Last Thursday morning, Executive Director Laverne Demous and another top official, Erica Cooper, were terminated.

    Wise and several people from the agency’s headquarters in Tallahassee have stepped in to run the center temporarily.

  • Work set to begin after Urgent Care move

    The Urgent Care Center at Gadsden Community Hospital has moved to the western wing of the hospital so that renovations can begin on the former emergency room in preparation for the reopening of the hospital by June 21, 2009.

    The move was necessary because of the extensive work that will be required.

    A large red and white sign now directs those in need of services to the parking area and the new entrance, which is closer to the first driveway, heading east.

  • Commissioners consider dumping county lobbyist due to budget

    Whether or not the county's lobbyists, Chris Doolin & Associates, are worth the $50,000 they are paid annually was on the table Tuesday night during the regular meeting of the Gadsden County Board of Commissioners.
