  • Moten, Vera Riles

    Vera Riles Moten, 55, of Tampa, died Jan. 28, 2009 in Temple Terrace. 

    Services will be held at 11 a.m. Feb. 7 at Mount Calvery Primitive Baptist Church in the Robertsville Community, with burial following in Sunnyvale Cemetery in Quincy.  Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday. 

  • Hernandez, Samuel

    Samuel Ortiz-Hernandez died Jan. 20, 2009 in Rockhill, S.C. A funeral mass was held Jan. 26 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church in Quincy with burial following at the Hillcrest Cemetery. 

  • Pollock, Josephine

    Mother Josephine G. Pollock, 70, of Chattahoochee, died Jan. 29, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    A native of Gadsden County, Pollock was a member of Tabernacle COCWIH in Gretna. Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Tabernacle COCWIH with burial following in the church cemetery.

    The family will recieve friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Tabernacle COCWIH in Gretna.

  • Rudd, Dirk D.

    Dirk D. Rudd, 53, died Jan. 25, 2009. He was an associate with Walmart of Thomasville, Ga., and a native of Quincy.

    A service was held Jan. 28 at Antioch Baptist Church, with interment in the Antioch Cemetery.

    He is survived by his brother, Larry Rudd of Tallahassee; sisters, Peggy Rudd Boyett of Hosford, Azie Rudd Moore of Dallas, Texas, Teresa Rudd Rhames of Quincy and Cindy Rudd Ransom of Tacoma, Wash.

    Memorial contributions may be made to the Southwest Georgia Hospice, 818 Gordon Ave., Thomasville, GA 31792-6611.

     

  • Grande, Christopher

    Christopher Alexis Grande, 16, of Greensboro, died Feb. 1, 2009.

    A native of Los Angeles, Calif., he moved to Gadsden County with his family in 2003. He was actively involved with the soccer program at West Gadsden High School.

    He is survived by his parents, Carlos A. and Mirna Marronqin-Grande of Greensboro; sister, Karla Elizabeth Grande of Greensboro; paternal grandfather Jose Luis Grande of Bristol; and maternal grandparents, Jose Alejandro and Maria Lidia Marroguin.

    A graveside service was held Feb. 3 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy.

  • Baker, John

    John Bidale “Big John” Baker, 85, died Jan. 14, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    A service was held Jan. 24 at Mt. Pisgah AME Church.

    He leaves to cherish his memories his two loving daughters, Ethel Harvey of Quincy and Sebrenia Baker of Orlando; sons, Roy Lodman and JahReal “Anton” AnaJah of Tallahassee; and a host of other relatives and friends.

     

  • Jackson, Deloris

    Deloris Jackson, 59, of Gretna, died Jan. 23, 2009 in Quincy.

    Services will be held Jan. 31 at noon at New St. Pete Apostle, with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday from 1-7 p.m.

  • Northern, Bennie

    Bennie Lee Northern, 62, of Quincy, died Jan. 19, 2009 at home.

    Services were held Jan. 24 at St. Stephens Primitive Baptist Church in Gretna, with burial in the Greensboro Community Cemetery in Greensboro.

    He is survived by his niece and caregiver, Barbara Ann Jackson; son, Dewayne Northern; siblings, Katie Mae Jackson, Eva Williams, James Northern, Wilburn Northern, Willie Frank Northern, Willie Lee Northern and Henry Lee Williams; and special niece, Lula Davis.

     

  • James, Eddie Lou

    Eddie Lou James, 97, of Quincy, died Jan. 15, 2009 in Lakeland. Services were held Jan. 21 at Arnett Chapel AME, with burial at Sunyvale Cemetery.

    She is survived by her daughters, Joelene Hayling of Ft. Pierce and Ann Adderley of Lakeland; daughter-in-law, Erma James of Newark, N.J.; foster daughter, Sharon Douglas Rolle of Miami; and seven grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

     

  • Beck, Menola

    Menola Bama Cook Beck, 90, of Bonifay, died Jan. 18, 2009 at her home. She was born March 9, 1918 in Bartow to the late Henry and Mattie Pettis Hinson. Beck was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Frank Beck; her children’s father, Gordon Cook; son, William Quay Cook and his father, Tom Cook; grandson, James Keith Haskins; great-granddaughter, Kylie Shaw; brothers, Alcus Hinson, Lexie Hinson, Aubrey Hinson and Dewey Hinson; and sisters, Marylee Mahan and Mayvee Owens.
