  • Brown, Jacqueline Robinson

    Jacqueline Robinson Brown, 56, of Chattahoochee, died Feb. 17, 2009 in Tallahassee. Services were held Feb. 21 at the West Gadsden High School Gymnasium in Greensboro with burial in the Bear Creek Bethel Church Cemetery.

    She was a member of Exodus Church of Deliverance in Quincy and graduated from Florida A&M University in 1973. She retired from the Gadsden County School Board as an educator after 34 years of dedicated service. She taught at Florida A&M University as a adjunct mathematics teacher.

  • Taylor, Joyce A.

    Joyce A. Taylor, 55 of Havana, died Feb. 16, 2009 at Haven Hospice Center in Gainesville. Services were held Feb. 21 at New Jerusalem MB Church in Havana, with burial in Mt. Zion AME Church Cemery in Havana.

  • Simmons, Sylvester

    Sylvester Simmons, 79, of Blountstown, died Feb. 16, 2009 in Panama City Florida. Services were held Monday February 23, 2009 at the Blountstown Civic Center, with burial in the Watson Cemetery in Bristol.

  • Hall, Elmore

    Elmore Hall, 58, of Tallahassee, died Feb. 8, 2009 in Tallahassee. He was a Gadsden County native.

    Funeral services were held feb. 14 at Triumphant Church of God, with interment at Sunnyvale Cemetery.

    Survivors include his sons, Christopher L. Hall Sr. of Turtle Creek, Penn. and Delwyn Hall of Quincy; sisters, Willie Mae Robinson of Quincy, Annie Rose Johnson and Rose Mary Hall, both of Tallahassee, and Geraldine Hall of Hopkinsville, Ky.; father, Rev. Frank Hall of Quincy; brothers, John Hall of Montgomery, Ala. and Jimmy Hall of Tifton, Ga.; and five grandchildren.

  • Bradley, Betty Jo

    Betty Jo Bradley, 64, of Quincy, died Feb. 11. 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Funeral services were held Feb. 17 at mt. Hosea MB Church.

  • Tutt Jr., Ralph M.

    Ralph M. Tutt Jr., formerly of East Greenwich and Narragansett, R.I., a URI professor emeritus who taught literature and film studies for 31 years, died Feb. 5.

    A veteran of the Korean War, Tutt served the U.S. Army as a radio operator and elementary school instructor in Erlangen, Germany from 1955-57.

    A native Floridian, Tutt received his early education at schools in Quincy and Tampa. He held degrees from four American universities, receiving his Ph.D. from Duke University in 1964.

  • Benjamin, Marlene

    Marlene Garrett Benjamin, 83, of Havana, died Jan. 30, 2009 in Tallahassee.  Services were held Feb. 7 at Palace AME Church in Havana. 

    She is survived by her sister, Louise Garrett of Havana; and a devoted cousin, Ethel Powell of New York, N.Y. 

     

  • Ellis, Jimmy

    Jimmy Joe Ellis, 22, of Bonifay, died Jan. 29, 2009 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City. He was born Feb. 23, 1986 in Marianna. 

    Ellis is survived by his mother, Denise Iris Berry Ellis of Bonifay; father, Joe Howard Ellis of Bonifay; and brother, Jamie Ellis of Bonifay.

    Services were held Feb. 4 at Peel Funeral Home Chapel in Bonifay, with interment in the Bonifay City Cemetery.

  • Harless, Hassell

    Hassell  Eugene “Gene” Harless, 70, of Bonifay, died Feb. 4, 2009 at Bay Medical Center in Panama City.  He was born Dec. 9, 1938 in Madison, W. Va. 

  • McAffee, Beadie

    Beadie Thurman McAffee, 62, of Quincy, died Jan. 30, 2009 in Tallahassee. Services were held Feb. 8, 2009 at Bradwell Mortuary Memorial Chapel in Quincy with burial in the Greensboro Community Cemetery.

    She is survived by her sons, Johnny McAffee and Willie McAffee; daughter, Catherine Conyers; brothers, James, Arthur and Johnnie Thurman; sisters, Mary Stringer, Cynthia Thurman, Sharon Thurman, Annie Thurman, LaTrell Thurman and Katie Thurman; uncles, Willie James and Willie Frank; aunt, Magaret Flendry; and 16 grandchildren and three great-grantchildren.
