  • Gaines, Doretha

    Doretha B. Gaines, 53, of Havana, died March 25, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Services will be held April 4 at 2 p.m. at China Hill MB Church, with burial at Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be held April 3 from 1 to 7 p.m. at Williams Funeral Home.

  • Odom, Mack

    Mack Madison Odom, 74, of Quincy, died March 26, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Funeral services will be held April 4 at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, with burial in St. Hebron Cemetery. Visitation is April 3 from 1 to 7 p.m.

  • Richardson, Joseph

    Joseph Richardson, 57, of Chattahoochee, died March 12, 2009 at Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare. 

    Richardson served his country by joining the U.S. Marine Corps.  He returned home after his service and worked until retirement as a human services aide at the Florida State Hospital.  He also attained certification as a nursing assistant.  He was a member of New Zion MB Church and actively attended St. James MB Church with his wife, Evangelist Betty “Peaches” Green Richardson of Chattahoochee. 

  • Sweet, Captollar

    Captollar Hannah Sweet, 93, of Tallahassee, died March 10, 2009 in Tallahassee. 

    Funeral services were held March 21 at Greater Bethel MB Church in Chattahoochee with burial following in the UBA Cemetery.  A wake was held March 20 at Bradwell Mortuary in Quincy. 

    She is survived by her children, L.J. Williams of Macclenny, and Lucille W. Bell and Johnnie Parham, both of Chattahoochee; and a devoted grandson, Ricky Bryant of Chattahoochee.

  • Evans, Charles F.

    Charles F. Evans, 70, of Quincy, died March 12, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Services will be held March 21 at 2 p.m. at Arnett Chapel AME Church, with burial in Sunnyvale Cemetery.

    Survivors include a son, Charles F. Evans Jr. of Auburn, Wash.; and a daughter, Kristen Elaine Evans of Bothell, Wash.

    Visitation will be held Friday.

  • McAlpin Sr., Judson E.

    Judson “Mac” Earl McAlpin Sr., 72, died March 13, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Annie Strickland McAlpin.

    Born in Greensboro, he had been a Wakulla resident since 1960. He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, and had served in the U.S. Navy, and retired as a captain with the Wakulla County Sheriff’s Department.

  • McLeod, Marcelle M.

    Services for Marcelle Massey McLeod, 88, of Thomasville, were held March 21, 2009 at Dawson Street Baptist Church, where she was a member, with interment in Sunset Memorial Gardens.

    McLeod died March 18 at Archbold Memorial Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. Pallbearers will be her grandsons.

    Born August 18, 1920, in Barwick, she was the daughter of the late Bertie Lloyd and Reva Jones Massey. On June 23, 1941, she married William Archie McLeod, who preceded her in death on March 15, 1964.

  • Tennent, Donna Jean

    Donna Jean Tennent of Havana took the witness stand at her baptism in 1952 as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She remained an active witness until her death on March 18, 2009, due to an extended illness. She made a good name with God, thereby proving the devil a liar (Proverbs 27:11).

    A memorial service was held March 21 at the Havana Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

    She was a resident of the Tallahassee and Havana areas since 1947 and graduated from Leon High School in 1956. She worked at the Leon County Office of Growth Management for 23 years.

  • Murray, Carolyn M.

    Carolyn Moore Murray, 57 , of Chattahoochee, died March 19, 2009 in Tallahassee. She was a faithful and devoted member of St. James MB Church in the Sycamore Community.

    Services were held March 28 at the St. James Church with burial following at UBA Cemetery in Chattahoochee. A wake service was held March 27 at the church.

  • Pittman, Charles

    Charles Faran “Charley” Pittman, of Tallahassee, died March 14, 2009 at Margaret Z. Dozier Hospice.

    Born Jan. 11, 1925 in Jamieson, he was the son of William Bertis and Kate Grub Pittman.
