  • Weaver, Albert

    Albert "Al" Weaver, 69, died June 21, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Services were held June 26 at Bevis Funeral Home Chapel in Tallahassee. A private family burial will be held at a later date.

  • McLeroy, Martha

    Martha E. McLeroy, of Dell, Ga., died June 21, 2009.

    Services were held June 28 at Mt. Moriah MB Church in Dell, with burial at White Cemetery.

    Survivors include her sons, Charles McLeroy (Artie) of Quincy and Edward McLeroy of Dell; and niece, Arizona McLeroy.

    She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris McLeroy.

  • Graham, John

    John Allen Graham, 58, of Chattahoochee, died June 14, 2009.

    Services were held at Greater Bethel MB Church in Chattahoochee June 23, with burial at UBA Cemetery.

    Born Dec. 21, 1950 in Chattahoochee, he was the son of the late John Claude Graham and the late Ruby Lee White Hagan. He was married to Marva M. Graham in 2004 and was a maintenance worker. He attended school at Southside Elementary and Carter Parramore High School. He served on the Greater Bethel usher board and was a choir member.

  • Bridges-Smith, Carolyn

    Carolyn Lenell Bridges-Smith, 56 of Gretna, died June 24, 2009.  She was a member of New Bethel AME Church. She was a longtime educator in the public school system. 

    Services will be held July 4 at New Bethel in Quincy, with burial following in the Sunnyvale Cemetery. 

    She is sirvived by her loving and devoted husband, Walter L. Smith Jr. of Gretna; sons, Walter L. Smith III, William M. Smith and Warren L. Smith; brother, Gary L. Bridges; and two grandchildren.

  • Jackson Sr., Oise

    Oise Jackson Sr., 85, died June 19, 2009 in Tallahassee. 

    Services were held June 27 at Pine Bloom MB Church in Greensboro with burial following in the Greensboro Community Cemetery. 

  • McMillan, Rena

    Rena "Doll" Mims McMillan, 93, died June 24, 2009 at her home. 

    Funeral services were held at New Hope MB Church in Mt. Pleasant July 1. 

    She was preceeded in death by her husband of 69 years, General McMillan. 

    She leaves to cherish her memories four sisters, Elvira Josey, Mary E. Griffin (Jimmy) of Bainbridge, Ga., Eula C. Pate and Eula Mae Lang of Syracuse, N.Y.

  • McLeod, Ella

    Ella W. McLeod, 70, of Quincy, died June 13 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Funeral services were held at Mt. Olive Freewill Baptist Church June 20, with burial in Campground Cemetery.

  • Dean, Mary L.

    Mary Louise Shpeard Dean, 79, died June 12, 2009 in Tallahassee.

    Born in Greensboro on Aug. 9, 1929, she was a lifetime resident of this area. She wa a member of the Hardaway Assembly of God Church.

    Funeral services were held June 16 at the church.

    Survivors include her daughters, Janice Walden (Jerome) of Quincy, Laura Carter of Tallahassee and Vanessa Dean of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Brenda Dean of Tallahassee; and sister, Evan May Giordono of Boston, Mass.

  • Joyner, Dorothy

    Dorothy "Dot" Moore Joyner, 86, died June 11, 2009 in Quincy.

    Graveside services were held June 14 at Tallahassee Memory Gardens.

    Joyner was born and raised in Bowden, Ga., and had lived in the Tallahassee area since 1950. She was retired as a financial assistant at the Florida Department of Corrections and, during World War II, served as a civilian at the Charleston Shipyards. She also served as a volunteer at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital and as a docent and tour guide at the Old Capitol. She was also a member of Northwoods Baptist Church in Tallahassee.

  • James, Gloria J.

    Gloria Jean James, 38, of Quincy, died June 15, 2009. 

    She was a faithful volunteer at The Shelter of Leon County. Services were held June 20 at Faith Temple of Jesus Christ in Quincy, with burial following in the Hopewell AME Church Cemetery in Havana.
