The West Gadsden High School Panthers are the only county team to make it out of the district playoffs in boys FHSAA basketball.
The team defeated Wewahitchka in a semifinal District 3-2A game on Friday night in Wewahitchka after trailing by 11 points late in the third period. The Panthers made a strong run the last 12 minutes of the contest, pulling out a 59-42 win.
Guards John Battles and Jesse Winbush led the spurt with quick scores off of steals. Battles finished with 22 points and Winbush hit 17. Mario Williams added 10 to the Panther total.
West Gadsden lost in the finals Saturday night 72-48. Only seven Panthers dressed out in the game.
East Gadsden lost in its bid for a state playoff berth last Friday night in Panama City Beach on a buzzer shot.
Godby won the game 78-77 to end the Jaguars’ season despite a 39-point game by East Gadsden's Leonardo Deloney. Deloney had seven 3-point shots in his scoring barrage. Kelvin Derrico was the only other Jaguar in double figures as he scored 12 points.
A.J. Graham pulled out 23 points and Darius Redding and Nicholas Wiggin each had 17.
The Bobcats at R.F. Munroe saw their season come to an end on Tuesday night as they lost to John Paul ll in District 3-A semifinal action, with a final score of 61-34.
Tommy Murray and John Hilton Revell each scored 14 points to lead the team.
