A Quincy businessman, 29-year-oldTravis Barkley, is the alleged victim of a shooting Dec. 3 around 10:30 a.m., minutes after he opened for the day.

Suspect Jerrell Quinshaun Richardson, 201 B.W. Roberts Street, Quincy, has been arrested and charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm in the city of Quincy.

According to Assistant Police Chief Glenn Sapp, a call came to the Quincy Police Department in reference to shots being fired. When officers arrived at Barkley’s Car Wash, 403 W. Jefferson St., (directly across from City Hall), he was found at a nearby business.

Sapp said when Richardson arrived at the carwash, the two men exchanged words. At some point during the argument, Richardson allegedly pulled out an automatic weapon and began firing. Barkley ran around the building with the suspect still chasing him and firing.

At some point during the chase, Barkley re-entered the building through a garage, which opened to the outside, only to jump through a plate-glass window on the other side of the building to escape.

Richardson allegedly fled the scene in a 1990s red Honda Accord. He was spotted in Quincy by police attempting to back into a parking lot behind another building on West Jefferson Street.

“When he got out of his vehicle, we did what we call a felony take down. That is taking him to the ground, and arrested him. He still had the semi-automatic weapon on him when he was arrested,” Sapp said.
