The Munroe volleyball team had a tough opening week with three losses. Two of the three matches went to the fifth game but with the same result. The team is rebuilding, following the graduation of four-year starters Kaitlyn Sirmons, Mollie Edwards and Audrey Thomas, and with only one senior, the team members hope to hit their stride mid-season.

West Gadsden opened their season with a district loss to Port St. Joe.

Munroe vs. Liberty County: On Monday the team traveled to Liberty County to face the Lady Dogs. Liberty County won the first two games fairly easily, but Munroe stormed back to take the third and fourth into extra points. They then lost the fifth and deciding game by a 15-12 score.

Junior setter Maddie Pappadakis was player of the game for Munroe with 12 assists, eight kills and four aces. Karleebeth Perkins added eight kills and freshman Katie Howell had five blocks.

Mybrie vs. Grace Christian: Tuesday the Lady Cats played flat and made many errors, allowing Grace Christian to take the match in three straight. Munroe led by as many as five points in games two and three but could not maintain. Perkins led with kills with six and Pappadakis added five digs.

Munroe vs. NFC: The team hoped to pick up their first win of the young season but ran the match to the fifth set, and again dropped the fifth game 15-12. Pappadakis and Perkins combined for 22 kills and Perkins added seven blocks. Katie Howell added four blocks.

West Gadsden vs. Port St. Joe: West Gadsden, under new coach Cheryl Moody, dropped their season opener to Port St. Joe in three straight games. Port St. Joe won 25-8, 25-7 and 25-12. No stats are available.
