RFM tennis ends season on two wins

The Munroe tennis team finished up its regular season with two wins to propel the Lady Cats into the Class A District 2 tournament this week at Maclay 

On Monday the team traveled to Tallahassee and defeated Chiles High School 6-1. The top four slots each won handily as did both doubles teams.  The girls dropped only the fifth spot. 

Meg Summerford won in the one slot 6-1, 6-3, while her sister, Beth, won in the two slot 6-0, 6-0, followed by Anna Dooner in the third spot, who also won easily 6-1, 6-2. 

Ivie Thomas picked up the final singles win in a tough three-game match before winning the tie breaker 10-8.  Abby Lewis was defeated 7-5, 6-2 in the fifth seed.

In doubles Summerford and Summerford won 8-0 and Dooner and Thomas also won 8-0. 

On Wednesday the team won over John Paul II for the second time this season.  The Lady Cats won five matches and lost two.  

Beth Summerford played valiantly in the No. 1 slot but lost to Kelly Conroy 6-4, 7-5.  Beth Summerford won easily 6-0, 6-1 and Dooner won almost as handily 6-2, 6-3. 

Thomas was blanked 6-0 in the fourth spot in game one but won game two 7-5. 

Rachel Wilkerson finished up singles winning 6-0, 6-4.

In doubles competition  Summerford and Summerford defeated John Paul’s top doubles team 6-1, 6-1 and Dooner and Thomas also won for the fifth win 6-2, 6-4.

The team, coached by Carolyn Summerford, finished the regular season 5-3.
