The Robert F. Munroe softball team won its regional quarterfinal contest against visiting Central High School of Milton by a 9-2 score on Tuesday night. The win marked the Lady Cats’ first playoff win since 1999.
Haleigh Corbally got the win from the mound with 13 strikeouts and no hits. Hitting for the Cats were Kristen Allen, Corbally and Courtney Mayo with two hits each, and Corbally tallied two RBIs. Allen stole two bases and scored two runs. Montana Manley hit a double in the third inning.
Friday night’s game with Aucilla Christian, a rematch of the district final won by Munroe 10-4, was rained out and had to be rescheduled for Saturday at 1 p.m. Aucilla used one earned run and five unearned runs to upend the Lady Cats 6-0.
Munroe ended their season 17-8 and graduated four seniors – Spenser Morris, Georgie Davis, Erin Sampson and Elly Tilk.
“This was not a great way to end an season but it was a great effort by the girls to win the district championship and that is something no one can ever take away. This team was a lot of fun and I will miss the four seniors next year,” said Coach Mark Allen.
