Raymond Henry Walke, PhD., USMC, USAR, USCGR, Retired, of Quincy, FL died on January 20, 2012.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Davison Walke, of Quincy, FL. A service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at the Centenary United Methodist Church in Quincy. Burial is at Glendale Memorial Nature Preserve, DeFuniak Springs, FL.
Dr. Raymond H. Walke was born in Salem, MA on August 8, 1933 and moved to Quincy in 2004. He received a Mining Engineering Degree from Lehigh University, PA; an Ms in Geological/Biological Sciences from Wesleyan University, CT; and a PhD in Plant Science from the University of New Hampshire, NH.
His 40 plus years of experience provided a broad and varied background in the fields of engineering and education. His most recent position was Senior Project Engineer for Statewide Engineering, Inc. in Douglas, GA. Simultaneously with his engineering career, Raymond held teaching positions at Bainbridge College, GA, Brewton-Parker College, GA, South Georgia College, GA, Savannah State College, GA, Simpson College, IA, New Hampshire Vo-Tech College, NH, University of New Hampshire, NH and Caanan College, NH.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, U.S. Army Reserves and more than 20 years in the U.S. Coast Guard, from which he retired in 1993.
Other survivors include two sons, Jon G. Walke (Margaret) of Lompoc, CA; Gary L. Walke (Teresa) of Bondurant, IA; two daughters, Danielle Robinson and Michele A. Degen (Mark) of Des Moines, IA; 8 step-children; 9 grandchildren; 9 step-grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
