The Munroe softball team is the only county team still playing the game this week. Both East and West Gadsden lost in opening round action to end their seasons.
Munroe defeated John Paul II on Tuesday night in what started as a close game but then opened up at the end for a win.

Munroe turned a tight district tournament opening game into a win as they defeated the Panthers of John Paul II for the third time this season. The team scored seven runs on 11 hits. Anna Jones, Ramsey Higdon and Kay Fletcher had two hits each and Jeri Sloan, Kaitlyn Sirmons, Mary Pat Thomas, Maddey Pappadakis and Kadejah Glynn had one hit each. From the mound, Jeri Sloan allowed two runs on three hits and struck out five.
On Thursday the team faced nemesis Aucilla Christian for the district championship for the fifth time in six years. Aucilla outhit the Munroe team 11 to 3 and won handily 12-3. The three hits for Munroe were singles by Jeri Sloan, Maddey Pappadakis and Mary Pat Thomas.
The loss moved Munroe into travel mode as they hit the road for the next round of regionals Thursday to face 2A-District 2 winner, First Coast Christian of Jacksonville. Game time is 4 p.m. The winner will play in regional semifinals on Tuesday.
