Munroe boys fall in season opener

The Munroe baseball team dropped two preseason games and lost their season opener to Rickards 8-1 this past Tuesday, Feb. 21, to start the season 0-1.   
The score was tied 0-0 until the bottom of the fourth when Rickards was able to push one run across.  The fifth inning was scoreless for both teams and Munroe tied up the score 1-1 in the top of the sixth. Stephen Burdick’s solo shot drove in Matt Salters for the Bobcats’ run.
ickards made good use of the bottom of the sixth inning, pushing seven runs across with a combination of errors and base hits.
Six Munroe players had one hit, including Nick Reynolds with a double.  
The Bobcats committed two errors and junior lefty Alex Shiver  got the loss on the mound.  Senior Bryson Blake pitched four innings and struck out one.  
The Bobcats played East Gadsden on Tuesday night, Feb. 28, and then travel on Friday,March 3, to play at Pace High School, where head Munroe coach, Jeremy Barlow, won a state championship in high school.  
On Saturday the team will continue west, where they will be hosted by Escambia High School in a 1 p.m. game.
