Mrs. Doris Pelham, age 83, a native of Quincy, Florida, passed away August 26, 2012, in Quincy, Florida, where she was residing at the Magnolia House. She had grown up in Quincy and after attending school and graduating from high school, she entered Massey Business College, Jacksonville, Florida.
Doris was the daughter of Lee Roy and Alva Annie White. She was a member of the Grace Community Baptist Church where at a young age she taught Sunday School and helped with Vacation Bible School. She also served many times as Home Room Mother at Chattahoochee Elementary School. Doris retired as a Retirement Specialist at the Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, Florida. In 1951 she married J.C. Pelham and a year later they moved to Chattahoochee shortly after the birth of their first child, Patricia Diane who later married John Ryals, residing in Bainbridge, Ga. A daughter was lost at birth in 1955. In 1964, they had a son John Wesley Pelham who later married Amy Shore, residing in Bainbridge.
Doris is survived by her two children and their spouses and three grandchildren, Christian Jackson, Sara Beth Pelham and Hunter Pelham. Also two great grandchildren, Caleb and Jacob Jackson, and long time caregivers, Moriah Jones and Donnie Greene. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband and five sisters.
Visitation with the family was one hour prior to the funeral. Funeral Services were Monday, August 27, 2012, 3:00 EDT at Grace Community Baptist Church, followed by Committal and Interment Services at Hill Crest Cemetery, in Quincy Florida. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Grace Community Baptist Church, 2059 Booster Club Road, Bainbridge, Georgia 39819 or Big Bend Hospice, 105 Jackson Street, Quincy, Florida 32351.
