An 18-year-old Midway man, Ron Howard, was arrested Aug. 6 and charged with armed robbery with a firearm and grand theft after he allegedly robbed the Ice Age Fashions clothing store at the corner of South Adams and West Jefferson streets in downtown Quincy.

According to a report released by the Quincy Police Department, a man matching Howard's description entered the store around 4 p.m. but didn't make any purchases. The man returned about an hour later wearing the same clothes but with the addition of a green ski mask.

The report stated that the robber pointed a handgun at the 11-year-old son of the owner and demanded money. He then pushed the register button and grabbed the money inside, approximately $300. The store's owner, Marki McClendon, was in a back room and came out after his son yelled, "Dad, we've been robbed."

McClendon asked his son what the robber was wearing and chased him south on Adams Street to Jackson Street, where Howard fled to the Gadsden Arms apartment complex.

Assisted by deputies from the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office, officers apprehended Howard inside one of the apartments. They also located the clothing as well as fourteen $20 bills. He was taken to the Gadsden County Jail. The investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected, according to Inv. Larry Gilyard.
