A 54-year-old employee at Gadsden Medical Center was arrested July 7 and charged with petit theft. The Havana woman, Dorotherias "Dorotha" Jenkins, allegedly took money from an elderly woman's purse as she waited to see the doctor, according to Inv. Brian Faison of the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office.

Faison said Jenkins denied taking $100 from Rebecca Thomas' purse when she went into an area for lab work. Thomas told Faison that there was no way for her to misplace the money because she went from the bank to the medical center and the only time her purse was away from her was when she went to the lab area. Jenkins said Thomas was the only other person in the area.

On June 9, Faison said, another elderly woman seeking treatment at the medical center reported that $300 was taken from her purse. Jenkins, she told Faison, was the only other person in the room. That woman, he said, refused to press charges.

"She just said she would let the Lord take care of it," he said.
