Marilyn Wiggins Anderson of Quincy, Florida passed away on March 28, 2012. She was a retired teacher with the Gadsden County School District. She was married to the late Willie James Anderson of Anderson Barber Shop.
Mrs. Anderson attended the public school in Duval County graduating second in the Class of 1946 from Stanton High School. She moved to Quincy in 1951 to start her teaching career after having completed her undergraduate degree from Edward Waters College and Florida A&M College. She received her Masters Degree in Mathematics from FAMU in 1967. She worked at Stevens High and Carter–Parramore High schools as a mathematics teacher until she retired in 1987.
She epitomized civic responsibilities. She gave her untiring service to: Gadsden County Daycare Services, Inc. (A Chartered Board Member), Tau Zeta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Retired Educator Association, Community & Economic Development Organization of Gadsden County, Inc., (CEDO, a Chartered Member and served as secretary for 28 years), Several Masonic organizations, National Association of Universal Women (NAUW), Annie Shaw Missionary Society, American Legion Auxiliary.
She leaves to mourn her precious memories three sisters, Evangeline Gay, Doris T. Wiggins of Jacksonville, Florida and Erma W. Rogers (Robert) of Tampa, Florida. Michael Armstrong, Robin Armstrong, and a special great niece, Ester Calvy of Quincy, Florida. Sister-in-laws, Delores Wiggins of Jacksonville, Florida, Bernice Lane (Timothy), Beulah Madry (Quincy). Devoted and dedicated friends, Inez Holt and Joyce Redding. A caring Goddaughter, Kathleen Lanier and host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and more friends.
Services will be held Saturday, April 7, 2012, 11:00 pm at Arnett Chapel AME Church, 209 South Duval Street, Quincy, Florida. Betsey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
