Christopher G. Martin, 46, was sentenced to 30 years in prison last week after he was found guilty on one count each of sexual assault on a juvenile and lewdness.
Lt. Larry Gilyard of the Quincy Police Department, who made the initial arrest on June 16, 2008, called the sentence a victory for law enforcement.
"We hope the days when these type of criminals getting off with 2 or 3 years are gone. The Quincy Police Department will not tolerate sexual abuse on our children. We're going to arrest them and make sure they are held accountable," he said.
Gilyard said Martin was a family friend and that he has, on one occasion, stayed with the family of the 14-year-old girl he assaulted.
According to a report on file with the Quincy Police Department, Martin gained entry to the girl's room through a window while she was asleep. She told police that she heard someone calling her name and trying to wake her up.
When the victim's mother came into the room, Martin jumped out of the window but left behind his flip phone, a condom, a can of beer and the butt of a cigarette.
Martin was arrested shortly after the incident.
Gilyard said he is currently investigating several similar incidents involving juvenile girls and adult men.
He warns parents to pay strict attention to the safety of their homes and secure them at night.
