57-year-old Quincy man Arzell Diggs Jr. was arrested April 9 on charges of sexual assault, battery and stalking. The charges involve a 17-year-old girl.
According to a report released by the Gadsden County Sheriff’s office, the teen said she trusted Diggs because he was a leader in the church and she “didn’t think he was going to go that far and do things to her.”
But Diggs is accused of touching the girl inappropriately and having sex with her on more than one occasion. The events allegedly began more than six months ago when Diggs began showing up at the teen’s high school football games and on several occasions he picked her up from school.
The girl reportedly told authorities she had two sexual encounters in Diggs’ truck and on several occasions at his home. She said he gave her gifts, money and purchased snacks for her after school.
Bond was set at $10,000 and Diggs has been ordered to have no contact with the victim, no unsupervised contact with a female younger than 18, prohibited from all high schools, middle schools or grammar schools, prohibited from coming within 500 feet of any school bus stop and prohibited from the church where the alleged victim attends.
