Damion Demetrius Farlin drove up to the mobile home where his girlfriend and child lived Saturday night to find flames coming out of the windows and doors. Farlin ran into the burning structure and perished.
According to a report on file with the Gadsden County Sheriff's Office, Farlin was yelling that he thought someone was inside the trailer at 14 Sarge's Lane in Sarge's Trailer Park, about two miles south of Quincy.
The report stated that Deputy Justin Wilkerson yelled to Farlin not to enter but the officer was too far away to physically restrain him.
"When we arrived on scene we found a mobile home with fire emitting from the windows and doors. Ms. Marquita Walker stated that she had a candle burning in the first bedroom. When she was in another room she heard a breaking noise. When she opened the door, the room was full of fire," stated a report on file with the Quincy Fire Department. There was no electricity to the home at the time of the fire.
According to the report, Walker called 911 and Farlin once she got out of the house, around 9:45 p.m.
Quincy firefighter Stoney Hall reported that he saw someone run into the trailer when he pulled up to the fire.
"The fire was so hot and intense it impeded our search for the victim who went inside," Hall wrote.
Farlin's body was recovered and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
