On Monday night Robert F. Munroe Day School’s Lady Cats defeated North Florida Christian, on Tuesday they lost to Maranatha while raising money for breast cancer awareness, and on Thursday the Munroe team defeated FAMU in a key district match.
The Lady Cats’ Courtney Mayo saved her best game of the year as the junior middle blocker tallied 10 kills and five digs to lead her team to their second win over NFC. Helping offensively were Spenser Morris and Audrey Thomas with seven kills each. Kristen Allen tossed up 23 assists and Georgie Branaman and Kaitlyn Sirmons added four digs each.
Munroe gave Maranatha Christian a scare but ultimatelywere unable to hand them their first loss in 15 games. The Lady Cats played superb in game one but couldn’t muster enough fire power to take any of the next three games. Morris had a career high 19 kills and Mayo added six kills. Allen had 26 assists and Branaman was big on defense with 12 digs.
The Lady Cats freshman Mollie Edwards used the ankle injury of Thomas to secure a starting spot in the Munroe rotation. Edwards responded with five kills and gained a wealth of experience.
Allen’s serving was the main act, however, as the junior tallied 16 aces on the short evening of work. Mayo added 10 aces.
The Lady Cats moved to 10-3 on the season.
