The Munroe softball team demolished host team First Coast Christian of Jacksonville 23-5 this past Thursday in the quarterfinals of the Region 1-2A softball bracket. Munroe, the runner-up in District 1, faced the District 2 champs on the road.

Not showing any road-weariness, the Lady Cats pounded out 12 hits and scored multi-runs in every inning before the game was called after the fifth for the mercy rule. A passed ball and a wild pitch during the first inning and an RBI single by Anna Jones and a sacrifice fly by Kaitlyn Sirmons in the second inning supplied the early offense for Robert F. Munroe.

Getting multiple hits for Munroe were Kadejah Glynn (two for two), Anna Jones (two for three) and Mary Pat Thomas (two for four). Thomas racked up four RBIs on two hits. She singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the fifth inning.

Freshman pitcher Jerri Sloan recorded the win for Robert F. Munroe. She allowed three runs over five innings. She struck out nine, walked four and surrendered four hits.

The Munroe team will have played arch-rival Aucilla Christian on Tuesday in 2A-Region 1 semifinals by the time this paper goes to print. The winner of that game will play for Regional Finals on Friday. Aucilla has defeated Munroe in all three meetings this season.
