The Robert F. Munroe Lady Cats softball team was disposed of in regional quarterfinals by Eagle’s View Academy in Jacksonville on Tuesday.
Eagle’s View, the defending Class A state softball champions, won the game handily 16-0. Last year the Lady Cats played EVA to a tight 3-2 contest but this was not the case last week.
The Lady Cats sent only a five-inning minimum of 15 batters to the plate. The game’s only hit was in the top of the fifth by eighth grader Kaitlyn Sirmons. Sirmons dribbled one by the Eagle’s View pitcher and reached first as Munroe’s only base runner. She was picked off first by Eagle View’s all-state catcher.
Haleigh Corbally pitched three innings giving up nine hits, eight runs and walking four. Mary Jane Milam came on in relief and also allowed eight runs on three hits. Milam walked six.
Eagles View winning pitcher was Sara Ketchi who was Sirmon’s hit away from a perfect game. She struck out 11.
Eagles View scored three runs in the first, four in the second, one in the third and four in the eighth.
The Lady Cats finished the season 11-11. The team loses three seniors: first baseman Amy Allen, rightfielder Clara McLendon and centerfielder Courtney White. They return the rest of the lineup including three freshman pitchers.
