After showing significant improvement from the first time the Robert F. Munroe volleyball team played nemesis John Paul II Catholic High School during the regular season, the team hoped that after four previous losses that the fifth time would be the charm. After all, the fifth meeting of the season between the two Class A schools was close by in Tallahassee and the winner earned a trip to the Region 1 finals and a possible state tournament berth.

The Munroe Lady Cats (19-8) played well before a large and vocal Munroe crowd that filled the visitors side of the John Paul gymnasium but well was not good enough. The taller, more experienced Panther team took game one 25-14 but then had to fight for game two before rallying to win hat one 25-22.

The Lady Cats made both mental and fundamental errors in game three and gave up that game 25-11.

Leading the Munroe cause offensively was freshman Mollie Edwards.Edwards led with seven kills and also chipped in 11 digs. Courtney Mayo and Spenser Morris each added four kills. Mayo also led the team in digs with 16. Setter Kristen Allen tossed up 15 assists and also added 11 digs of her own.

The team bids farewell to 4-year senior starter Spenser Morris, and 2-year senior starter Adrianne Woodward. They return the nucleus of the lineup, however, and will open up the 2010 season expected to be top seed.
