East Gadsden High School’s Jaguars brought home the first victory of the season after a run-in with the Marianna Bulldogs in a preseason classic last weekend.
In the first half of play, the teams faced off with Marianna hitting the field minus four starters due to injury or illness.
The Jags took the opening ball 80 years and landed the extra point to make the game 7-0 with 7 minutes left in the first quarter.
The Bulldogs then drove into their own 20 yard line, but failed to pick up a first down. The Dogs were forced to punt, and the snap resulted in a second touchdown for East Gadsden. The Jags failed to snag the extra point, and the score was 13-0.
The Dogs’ next possession was intercepted and led to another TD by the Jaguars. EGHS failed to get the conversion, but the half ended with the Jags on top 19-7, after a scoring drive ended in a TD for the Dogs.
In the second half, the Jaguars faced off against Liberty County.
Liberty scored one touchdown in each of the two quarters of play, defeating East Gadsden 14-0.
EGHS takes on West Gadsden Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at home.
