Jags win 2 in Chipola, gear up for Classic

The Munroe Lady Cats dropped three games in the Maclay Holiday Hoops Tournament.

In their opening contest the Lady Cats were blasted by eventual tournament finalist Lincoln High School, 58-21. Lincoln led 31-17 at the half.

A host of Lady Cats had a smattering of points. Courtney Mayo scored seven points and Anna Dooner scored six points. Dooner also pulled down five rebounds. Carrie Scott dished out five assists and Kristen Allen finished with five steals.

In the second game of the losers’ bracket, Munroe played host team Maclay fairly close. Maclay led 20-14 at halftime and outscored the Lady Cats 19-17 in the second half for a 39-31 win. Beth Summerford and Dooner scored 12 points each. Summerford also led in rebounding with eight. Desiree Whiddon followed on the boards with seven. Scott dished out eight assists in the loss.

In the finals of the losers’ bracket, Munroe lost to Chiles 45-36. Chiles pulled away in the fourth quarter for the win.

Mayo worked hard on the boards and finished with 11 rebounds. Allen had seven assists and foul-ridden Scott had five assists.

Grice leads EGHS to win

over Cottondale

Jasmine Grice showed why FAMU snatched her up in the early college signing period by scoring 37 points en route to a 68-54 win over Cottondale. Grice hit five 3-pointers and had five steals. Daphne McLaurin scored nine points, pulled down nine rebounds and blocked five shots. Ashley Blair added eight points and seven rebounds. T’errica Frost also had five steals. The team moved to 6-3 overall.

The Lady Jaguars participated in the Langston Education Foundation Tournament at Chipola College over the holidays.
