East Gadsden High School won both their games in last weekend’s Chipola Classic played in Marianna.
The Jaguars defeated Marianna in overtime Friday night and came back to clip Malone Saturday night.
“It was a hard-fought game against Marianna,” Jaguar coach Demetric Salters said. “They are well-coached and are hard to beat in the Chipola Gym. But we held in there and played well in the overtime period.”
East Gadsden outscored the Bulldogs 11-3 in the extra period, breaking away from the 57 all-regulation tie.
Leonardo Deloney and Smook Thomas had fine games from their guard slots as Deloney popped in 27 points and Thomas added 19. Brian Robinson and Harrison Gibson did good board work for East Gadsden with 13 and 10 rebounds respectively.
In the Malone game, Salters played his whole team as the Jaguars jumped to an early 17-point lead. They wound up winning 70-62.
Kelvin Derrico was top scorer for East Gadsden with 18 points. Deloney put in 16, Brian Robinson had 11 and Andre Robinson popped in 10.
The Jaguars’ next action will be in the Capital City Classic Dec. 29-30. On the 29th East Gadsden meets Stephenson High School out of Atlanta at 8:30 p.m. On Tuesday, they play Bainbridge at 6:45 p.m. Both games will be at the civic center.
