The East Gadsden Jaguars were in action last Friday night as they traveled to Starke to take on the Bradford Tornadoes.
Bradford took the early 3-0 lead after a big play set up a Tyler Cubbedge field goal but the Jags answered quickly when freshmen Jarrell Reynolds returned the ensuing kickoff a school record 89 yards for a touchdown. It was only the second kickoff return for a score in school history. The East Gadsden defense then held and went on a scoring drive capped by a Wiley Williams 5-yard touchdown run.
Then it was the defense’s turn to get on the scoreboard when Antwain Matthews returned an interception 79 yards for the score. Matthews had two interceptions in the first half and Jamal Williams added another. East Gadsen went into the locker room at the half up 19-3.
East Gadsden got the job done in all three phases of the game, scoring an offensive, defensive and special teams touchdown all in the first half.
The second half was all defense, led by middle linebacker Adrian Williams, who finished the game with 14 tackles. Linebacker Javerius Cunningham finished with 13 tackles on the night.
The Jags downgraded the Tornadoes with a 19-9 win, a win that Coach Scott Anderson was very happy with.
East Gadsden moves to 3-6 overall and 1-3 in the district. This Friday is senior night as the Jags take on Union County at home.
