Ben Young blasted a pair of home runs and added a double, helping the Chattahoochee Red Birds to a season-opening 17-10 win over the Liberty County Diamond Dawgs Sunday in Bristol.
It was the first day of the new Big Bend Adult Baseball season.
Young hit a two-run shot in the first inning and added a three-run homer in the fifth. In all he drove in six runs.
Alondrea Gunn also had three hits for Chattahoochee and Clay White was the winning pitcher in relief.
Richie Smith slapped four hits for Liberty County and 'Boo' Morris poked two hits.
In other Big Bend play Sunday, Calhoun County defeated Jackson County 17-8 and Gulf County defeated Bay County 8-6.
This week’s schedule has the Red Birds hosting Gulf County at 3 p.m. Saturday while Calhoun County will be hosting Liberty County in Altha at the same time.
On Sunday, Bay County will play at the Jackson County Jays.
